Default Thinking of getting Alexander, need some help?

    Hi,

I saw that the Alexander expansion pack was for sale on Steam for 10 bucks so I thought why not, I should get it. However, both my Rome: Total War and Barbarian Invasion are physical store-bought copies, so I'm wondering if they would be compatible with the Steam version of ALEX: Total War. Both for this mod and other purposes.

And, if so, would I need to redownload all of Roma Surrectum beta, and if there was anything special about including ALEX in it. When I get it off of Steam it goes into its own Steam folders and is there any problem just copy pasting that in? I just need someone in my same position to tell them me how it works.

Edit: Stupid Steam won't let me purchase it without having the last two games on Steam. I guess you can just delete this.

The funny thing is he also sent me a PM saying 'PM' me, lol.

So I figured out that in Steam's typical idiocy they're selling Alexander for 9.99 but also the complete pack of Rome, BI, and Alex for 9.99 as well. So I guess I could just buy that...does anyone then know if there is any special consideration I need to mod a completely steam version of R:TW, BI, and Alexander?

Err - i think 9.99 for a game an two expansion packs is pretty much THE definition of on sale.

I got lucky when I went out to buy it again maybe 2 year or so ago, i got all three together in my local shop for £5, they didn't have the case for it, just a bare black box with them in.

lol ya, and i looked and get the bundle with all 3 as in the desciption of the alex steam it said it requires a steam version of the first to games, so you would need to DL all 3

I'd still suggest buying them on disc. If you really want to play through Steam then you can always register them as a 'non Steam game'.

I've heard that in the past there have been probems with using a Steam RTW Alexander with the disc versions of RTW and/or RTW BI......

The only download of RTW Alexander I've ever had was the original one when the game has launched.

Also, the advantage of the disc version is that you can keep the original RTW install 'clean' and simply take a copy of that and apply the mod to the new copy. I don't know if that is possbiel with Steam.
