so my problem is i tried installing the DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer and it says i have a newer version of directX and nothing will be installed. It gave me this message even when I tried installing DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer with UAC off.

Reboot with the UAC off and log in as Admin and see if you can force it that way.

Same problem...I downloaded it to deskop, disabled UAC and it still says that it can not be installed, because i have the newer version..so how to do it in the hard way? should i uninstall directx11 first or what?

I dont think its UAC problem, because the directx installation setup itself somehow detects that you are running newer version and it doesnt install it, no UAC message pops up...however i tried it...restarted pc as admin with UAC off and tried to install it again and nothing happened.it still says i have newer ver..
Irishron, you said you are runing win 7 64bit and you had to install it as well, so what did you did to make it work for you?)

Because of the same problems with Vista, after I installed Win7, and before I installed anything else including games, I disabled the UAC - it's still disabled - and installed dx9. Why is everyone having problems installing it now is a good one that I currently have no answer.

Good news - I think i have finally successfully installed drectx9 on my win 7...
    downloaded this one: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en
Bad news - it changed nothing...
But then i checked my system.log file and holy crap!!!! it says that i am missing a lot of data files..
Funny thing about it is that i`ve played exactly the same game on win xp 32bit and it worked perfectly, the only thing i have changed since then is my OS and now files gone missing??!!wtf?? win 7 eats my medieval 2 files....(reinstallation doesnt help)
so what does it meen? My medieval 2 total war instalation is broken or it still could be the problem with wrong graphics drivers, directx and ect?

@FirstInHell, your log is normal. It reads the packs first.

When you changed from XP to 7,
Was if a clean install or an update?
Did you install Win7 motherboard drivers? Microsoft won't.
Did you install the new graphics drivers? Microsoft won't.
    Did you disable the UAC?
Did you install the game in tis default location?
Did you check the box for the game to install its directx drivers?

yes, it was clean install....but what do you mean by win 7 motherboard drivers?? my motherboard drivers was installed from manufacturers cd, but i have updated my drives and bios to the latest version possible...(my motherboard: Asus P5P41D if it says anything to you) Do win 7 need some special drivers or what are you saying?? my current graphics driver is 197.45 ver, wich is the latest for my vga (GF 9500gt)...my UAC is turn off..game install location is C:\Program Files (x86)\SEGA\Medieval II Total War so i guess its defoult location...And yes, during game installation directx installs and updates automaticlly, so i checked that box..

The motherboard needs the latest drivers possible with Win7. If they are Win7 specific, better yet. If it installed the directx ones off the disc, it should run.

Just from my own experience, I installed Medieval2 and Kindoms in C:\Games with the UAC off just to get away from that protected folder. If you have ideas of downloading mods or in the future doing any modding, this is a great alternative to what was great for XP.

The latest dx9 is http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en. You may want to try it.

Updates for my motherboard i have downloaded from here : http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx , so everything seems to be up to date and compatible with win 7 64bit..
and as far as i understand (correct me if i am wrong) dx9 from the link you gave me only updates dx9 and downloads files that are missing...i mean, its not full install? well, at least that is what they are saying in here: http://www.sevenforums.com/gaming/13...t-install.html
However, as i said before i can not install dx9 from the link you give...It says: "you have newer ver or equivalent of it" and it doest install...the only thing i can install is this: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en or this: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en
And also dx9 udates automaticlly during game installation so it should be alresdy installed and up to date...Another thing is that i have tried few other games, which requires dx9 and they runs smooth on my system, so it makes me think that dx9 files works fine on my pc..
However, i will try to bring my medieval 2 folder outside pragram file(x86) folder, like you did, and try it if it works...
Well, to tell you the truth, i have no idea what else could be wrong with it...i have tried everything and nothing seems to be working..its just ing ridiculous..
Maybe its not dx9, maybe its black magic or somthing ...like voodoo just worse...I will go now to buy some holy water, i will apply it to my pc, and i will be back with results shortlly...just keep in touch...

Oh, and by the way, thanx for attempts to help....i appreciate it...

Okay, FirstInHell, where did you get the game? What version as in original Medieval2, Kingdoms, Gold?

Another question_ what other programs do you have installed as in games, utilities, etc.?

I will double check my mobo drivers too, I have an nforce board. Also, I have medieval 2 gold. My kingdoms install is patched to 1.5, but my vanilla mtw2 is still 1.2. Do I need to install the 1.3 patch?

@Sputnik7, You have Kingdoms patched to 1.5, 1.3 is installed. 1.2 is for singleplayer, 1.3 is for multiplayer. That part you're okay. Nforce drivers you can get from Nvidia.

@robloxken, read your thread and don't spam this one. Thank you, PoleCat.

I have solved the problem! And the problem was that win7 runs dx11 (some says its almoust the same thing as dx10.1 from vista sp1, but i doubt about that...), however i realized that my graphics card doesnt support neither of them ( it only supports dx10.0 ver.) so i downloaded this one: http://www.brothersoft.com/km-software-directx-10-download-197601.html
basicly this is dx10 for win xp but it works on my win7 just fine..i installed it, rebooted, tried to play M2TW, got through 30 or35 turns and it didnt crashed...unspecified error is gone!
So that`s it....directx 10 is the way to go!
    Thanks for advises Irishron..

What do you think irishron? I have a gtx260 which only supports dx10.0 as well. Should i try what firstinhell tried?

I would but I would also make a restore point before I install it just in case it does not work for me. I have always been a little adventurous, anyway.
