Default Question about the campaign battle maps

    Hello everyone,

I played Empire Total war at release and I noticed how the campaign battle maps seemed to poorly reflect the location of the battle compared to Rome or Medieval 2.

For example in Rome battle maps would show the actual topography on the campaign map, reflect the actual type of roads built in the region, show coasts and cities if the battle was near one, even boats if your fleet was anchored nearby.

In Empire, it seemed to cycle through a set number of maps more or less depending on the climate of the region, never saw a coast.

I was wondering if this has been improved upon in Napoleon Total War ?

    Thanks in advance !

It's a little bit better than in Empire, but its still got nothing on rome.
In the grand scheme of things, there seem to be different types of maps for different regions. If you fight in Spain, your more likely to come across flat, arid plains, in britain, there seems to be more grasslands, etc..
If you fight naval battles and have your graphics turned up, you can see coastline in the distance, but it dosent affect the actual battle.
I've also noticed that if you fight near a farm on the campaign map, the battle map will usually have farmlands on it, mines seem to have rockier hillier terrain, and universities seem to have a town on the map, but they won't be particularly unique.

Unfortunatly, it still dosent seem quite as good as rome, but it is definitely a step up from Empire.
