Default Problem with 3 options after knock down a castle/city?

Im playing SS 6.2 and I see if I choose "sack settlement", I'm received less money than "massacre population", meanwhile it give more money than "massacre", and if I choose "massacre", it damages buildings in this castle/city.
I dont know why, pls help.

Just occupy, unless you don't plan to keep it then, just burn down everything!

Sacking gets you more money, and it's pretty logical, you rob the settlement so you get a lot of money, depending on how developed the settlement is. And yes, if you massacre ppl, buildings are always damaged.

massacre is not advised, as it doesn't give you anything at all, unless you want a full dread general...

if you plan to keep it, sack it, or ocuppy, if you plan to give it, sack AND destroy all the buildings (lots of money)

massacre is only to "train" dread generals, but the cost for such action is far too much, at least when you don't have enough money

Never sack a castle, especially in the early period. You need population to level up castles faster. Even later, it's really hard for castles to slip into negative public order, so sack sparingly.

As for cities...sacking large cities can be a good idea, it's generally not advised for small cities, towns, etc...

"The fact is that every war suffers a kind of progressive degradation with every month that it continues, because such things as individual liberty and a truthful press are not compatible with military efficency."
-George Orwell, in Homage to Catalonia, 1938.

unless its from another religion, usually cairo/jerusalem etc, have very low pop order if you don't sack them, unless your general is high chivalry... even then you need to convert pop VERY fast

Today I got 0% order in Constantinople when I occupied it, even with 45% Muslim population (I'm the Turks). The problem was all the right buildings were damaged (every one of the public order buildings). Thessalonicca was also very hard to keep happy in Vanilla.

I use exterminate in rare cases where I've suffered huge losses to take a Huge City and need to keep the population down so it won't revolt. Otherwise Occupy if I want my reputation to go up, and sack if I don't really care

I often exterminate just for role-playing purposes at times. It's quite satisfying me thinks.

But it is satisfying when those damn Venetians back-staps you and you get to Venice.. I love smell of napalm in the morning. Smells like, victory.

OMG you're right.. What have done? I've murdered innosent non-living, not-really-existing population of medieval-time-Venice in video game on my computer... HolyDevil, I promise that I will not commit such a crime never ever ever again. (unless they really really deserve it )

Especially if I attack an excommunicated faction or a faction of another religion. I just role-play that I'm doing God/Allah's work.

I usually do this once I have an empire I'm satisfied with (I never play up to 70 settlements.) Then I would just go around burning stuff down. For example, if I play England, I might control Britain, France, and Scandanavia, and then I'll just go around burning down Italy and Spain and Greece and what not.
