Default PSU mounting in Antec 1200

So I was wondering which way the PSU should go on the Antec 1200, with the fan facing up or down? I bought a Thermaltake Toughpower XT 775W Modular PSU (Corsair was sold out) and on the side it brings the lights as shown in the pic below:

    PSU

So I would really like the lights to be the correct way and have the PSU with the fan pointing down but I was worried that the PSU might not work properly or would get too hot. I don't wanna drill any holes on the case, that is not an option and please don't say "Put the fan up, it's just lights", thanks for any help.

Hate to say it but you'll want to put the fan up. The lights really aren't useful anyway. Mounting it fan down would reduce the airflow quite a bit which would likely make the fan run at a higher RPM in an attempt to bring in more air (assuming it's thematically controlled) and decrease the PSU's lifespan as less airflow = more heat = PSU failing sooner.

I have a Corsair 1000 watt PSU in my Antec 1200 and it was actually designed so that the fan would point up and the label is still right-side-up.

Thanks for answering my question anyway, I was thinking that the fan had to be facing up although I was hoping I was wrong.

You can install it fan down but it will run the fan at a higher RPM making it noisier and it will decrease it's lifespan, by how much though? Who knows.

If it were me though I'd go with it up

Yeah, with the Corsair, you could have mounted it fan side down, no problem. That is how I have mine, Corsair says it is cool, and everything we know about the Corsair PSUs, is that they dont really get very hot, and the fan works very efficiently.

Honestly though, it isn't about getting moving air onto the PSU. The rubber feet offer more than enough clearance to allow for more than enough air. It's air...and I think you would have a hard time finding a PSU that would struggle. I would be more worried about dropping a screw into the PSU with the fan facing up.

And we should have definitely recommended the Antec CPX line, which are Antec proprietary.

The PSU is the last thing you install when building a PC, so you shouldn't be dropping screws into it.
