    Default Video Problems with Game

    I got NTW about two weeks ago. It has worked fine on medium to high settings so far. Occasional crashes from a battle but after Empire I am used to it. However last night I tried Ultra for the heck of it and it worked fine for a few hours before my video card starting failing. Game freezing with weird pixellation forcing me to manually shut down the game. Reboots did not help and sometimes the video problems persisted after "crashing" the game. I have tried the memory trick noted elsewhere here but that caused boot problems so I had to undo that. Cleaning the card and updating the drivers did not seem to help.

    Edit: And lowering the settings hasn't helped.

    I cannot get the dxdiag window to pop up in game so I am not sure if the info below will help but here it is.

    How does your card work after the freeze? Will it boot up the computer? Can you other tasks on it as in play other games?

    If so, maybe you ran it out of memory. If not, maybe you fried your card.

    Either way, your graphics divers are old. There are 197.45 ones out for it.

    It worked after freeze, but after a few reboots and going back to NTW it deteriorated. I reinstalled a driver that I thought was the latest one and it seemed fine until I tried NTW again. I just went back in and installed the 197.45, I was able to get to the deployment phase of a battle before the flickering, random pixellation and eventual freeze occurred. it remained after I was able to close NTW and steam. I reboot and no problems but something with NTW and now Empire starts up the problems again.

    I am beginning to suspect that I did fry it but not completely so it is dying. yippee.

    Thanks, but I cleaned it before posting this thread. It helped me get the card working for everything but NTW & ETW.

    Ok, Dell is replacing the card. Based on my specs and the fact that I played the game for a week problem free, I should be able to play it again with the new card. However, are there any recommendations for settings when I get the new card (see dxdiag in first post) to avoid a repeat? I am getting same card NVIDIA 8800GT.

    I do plan on upgrading to windows 7 64 bit at some point.
