    Icon8 Second wall layer

I have been playing Stainless Steel 6.1 and took the walls until i noticed that my units would not go to the plaza. Then i saw that i did not notice there was a second layer of walls.

Then, i noticed that no matter how fast i destroyed my mouse, my units that were on the walls just would not go to the second layer!!!

Okay, then i routed a reinforcement unit of dismounted knights, which ran to the plaza. I stood near it, expecting to run after them. BUT THEY SIMPLY STOPPED NEAR THE SECOND LAYER AND GATES DID NOT OPEN! Duh, i have known AI likes to occasionally break stereotypes from Rome:Total war...

Is it possible to take that layer without siege equpiment?

    Yes, with a spy..

And if you're lucky you can sneak in together with a retreating unit (NOT routing, just retreating or they will indeed stop at the gates themselves).

It's supposed to be harder to take a fortress then it is to take a castle.. what would be the point of having a second wall if you could just walk through the gate???

I mean, my soldiers have the walls, and the second layer clearly looks connected to the first one. And i am wondering how i`d get siege equipment there...

You can march your ram tot he gate, or your ladders to the walls

Your soldiers can't move from the top of the first wall to the next. I know it's not realistic as they are clearly connected but it would just make the game to easy.

And as sabaku no gaara said you can move most siege engines through the gate with the exception of siege towers and maybe trebuchettes.

Or, you can just use a monster bombard and target a unit at the plaza and watch it blow a hole in every wall between the two

It's a mystery why the first wall clearly seems connected to the second one - because clearly, it's not supposed to be connected, and the game rightly does not permit passage..

I have a feeling castles were supposed to be much more complex to attack and defend, but that it was scrapped at late development.

In a citadel, the first wall and the second wall are always connected. But second and third are not sure, some citadels have connections or not. When I besiege it, I send half of the soldiers to a direct assault from the first layer to the plaza. The second half go over the walls and get to the second level and open the gates for the first group. If you are lucky, the second wall and the third wall are also connected. Fight the historical battle of SIEGE OF SETENIL. The walls are all connected. That is why wall defending is still need even in the inner layers. Once you are on the walls, you have chance to get to plaza by 45-55% on easy level and may be 20-35% on med. level.
HEY TAKE LEISURE WITH THE WALL CONNECTIONS AH AND DON'T TRUST YOUR WALLS!!!
