    Default Windows 7 compatibility

Has anyone had any problems with RTW and its mods using Windows 7? I recently installed the game and several mods such as XGM, EB, RS, RG, and none of them seems to work. Any ideas why that could be?

I have Win 7 64 bit, RTW-BI, TE, TECAM, and SP, with full admin rights, the UAC disabled, and no problems, even with battles.

I'd also suggest that you don't install into the c:\program files (x86) folder - instead just create another folder at the same level and install bits to there.

More often than not this will mean the 'virtual store / application data' is not used - so all your preferences and saves are where you expect them.

Also, if you want to take screen shots using CRL+ALT+Printscreen then I suggest that you play in 'windowed mode' - using the -ne shortcut properties target switch.

That error indicates that either you don't have the game patched to the correct level (check the top right hand corner of the options menu for the version of the game you are actually playing OR it could be that you are trying toplay a 'provincial campaign' without selecting the right campaign.

Disable the UAC before you install works best.

That is an error in the xgm mod, not the game itself.

Contact XGM mod forum or the Rome Workshop is a good place to learn how to do it yourself.

I get the same error on every mod I installed. I only used the XGM as an example.

Another reason for not working maybe not modfoldered and crammed into each other.

nop, I haven't made any changes whatsoever in the descr_strat file, or on any other file.

I'd also suggest that you don't install into the c:\program files (x86) folder - instead just create another folder at the same level and install bits to there.
I did that. I installed under C:\Rome - Total War

I have the 1.5 version. I installed BI and even downloaded the 1.5 patch, to be absolutely positive I had it up to date.

I suspected that could be the reason so last time I reinstalled the only mod I installed was XGM, wich is modfoldered.

Hi all, I finally got RTW working thanks to advice here, installed in c-programs, disabled AUC. also watch out for shortcuts if you have them, Windows 7 likes to target them to x86 programs as well any add-on programs which you install like Alex ect head for x86 if you dont watch it. regards, mags

    Yes, both of them.

This is what reads on my XGM shortcut
    Destination - "C:\Rome - Total War\RomeTW-BI.exe" -show_err -nm -mod:xgm

    Start - "C:\Rome - Total War"

Magpie, have you had any problems with restarting your game? I mean, I noticed that when I turn RTW off and try to play it again, I'm not able to. The game starts but it will always minimize and wont allow me to play.

A friend of mine has RTW and BI installed on W7 and XGM (wich is the mod I'm using as an example) and it all works fine. I'm really not getting why is it that I can't play...

    You have a bad copy.
Delete yours and download it, again.
