The Next Total War - A Dream

I know this is somewhat irrelevant to Napoleon, however it has been on my mind for a while. It seems both industry-wide and in total war games over the past few installments, the focus has been very much about graphical updating and making games look lush. Well, hand-on-heart I must say Napoleon/Empire are stunningly beautiful games, and I am only running them on medium settings, I can only dream about it on maximum.

This is where my brainstorming comes in to play. This seem's like a good oppoortunity, albeit in a more perfect world, for CA to take a step back, keep the graphics as they are (honestly, no need to update, they are ahead of their time anyway) and improve the key fundamental aspects of the game. Now I know this is almost futile to ask for, and I know it is like I said, a dream, but imagine what could be done if the game looks the same as it does now, with updates being about the gameplay, modding tools and simply how smoothly the game runs.

If they keep it as it is, PC's will have caught up, meaning more people could play the game and on higher settings, putting all their hard-work on more people's screens. In addition, there would be a more diverse range of units/settlements/weapons/buildings and a plethora of other possiblilties.

Like I said it is just a dream, I believe it would be best for the customer and indeed raise sales anyway. Either way I look forward to the next game - CA do us proud!

P.S. A new ancient Japanese/Chinese game would be rather nice

Civilization TW - Stretching from Western Europe to the Far East set in a very early age so that you can build the Babylonian/Assyrian/Egyptian Chinese etc empires

I would love to play that, but It would be hard to choose what dynasty the game is set in, the Egyptian Kingdom lasted for thousands of years, and they got conquered multiple times.

Just give us a 1600-1820 game, so we really can get all aspects of gunpowder warfare in....(give me plenty of opportunity to make the Baltic a Swedish sea)



And please, get your mind up if you want Hollywood escque battles or something with a touch more realism in em...

Exactly! With a better AI, more provinces, national decisions and war statistics! War Statistics: How is the war going? Win or Loss? Quantity/Quality of soldiers. And more develop-able towns(longer chain of buildings)!

Yeah I have a been there done that attitude. I don't mind remakes if they're 3D improvements on older games (Medieval, Shogun). I really REALLY want a 1815-1905 game (Crimea, Race for Africa, India)

I totally agree with you, sadly this will remain a dream.

Personally I would be happy with the graphics of M2:TW (or maybe even slightly updated Rome) when they concentrate on gameplay and add easy modding ability again.

The graphics are definitely ahead of time. Let us all catch-up with our machines, I think (or hope) the great graphical-beauty quest in games of the Noughties are over and gameplay is becoming paramount again in the next generation of games.

All of this is just a dream, CA is neither creative nor intelligent enough to create a game that gamers actually want. Instead of hiring a few normal gamers off of the street and getting there opinion and there ideals, they rather hire idiots how never played a game in there life. So then all they see is a high graphical game.

Still, we'll always have our mods hopefully...

Empire felt like CA had given up, over-hyped the game, sold as much as they could and decided to leave the rest to the modders who seem to be able to make a game we want better than the developer who made the incredible original games. Where have they lost their way?

To go back to what jonesy012 said about focusing more on the key elements and let the graphics as it is seems a great idea to me. I would be very happy if CA would do that in the next TW game

P.S. A TW Asia game would be great because Asia hasnt been in ETW or NTW (I dont know about rome, medieval or shogun cuz i didnt played them)

So far I've deduced what the gamers want, what will sell the next games and make them AAA titles. Why it won't happen is just... unbelievable.

I agree completely and it is the right way for CA to go about developping their games from now on, however, will they do it? I doubt it because working on gameplay issues doesnt bring in the quick buck which it seems CA are much more interested in of late. A short sighted business path i know....
