Default An offer you cant refuse

napoleon on steam - 33% off

now etw i bought for 66% off and i wasnt going to buy napoleon and now i am torn weather i should wait for a 66% ntw deal or buy it now.
if i wait for the 66% deal i only save a bit more then 10 bucks compared to the 33% deal

has napoleon also a sandbox game or are u only able to play scripted campaigns which seems to kill replayability?

As far as I'm aware (although I haven't played it yet), it's all linear, scripted campaigns. But apparently multiplayer is very good, as is performance.

well now with EUs trouble with greece and all 14 pounds is like 9300,33 Eur

hm better performance sounds great - all scripted sounds bad. is there any replayability then? where are the fanboys when u need them :-/
i want to buy it but i havent found a good reason to convince myself yet

good performance is a small good reason, multiplayer i dont care about as i dont play multiplayer anymore. i am too exausted and slow after work for multiplayer.

Well I'm playing it at the minute.

I'm working through the scripted campaigns of Napoleon, and as with the American Independance Campign in ETW its enjoyable as an exercise but linear in format so one would only really play through it once or twice and then its done and you won't really bother going back to it again.

The Coalition campaigns in NTW are a bit dissapointing to say the least. I've played all of them now and in most cases I get too bored to even finish them. The exception is the British campaign, but the only reason that has kept my attention is because of the increased potential for trade arising from Britain's position as an island. That has added an extra aspect to the game which just makes it interesting enough to keep playing.

As a simulation of the Napoloenic War its a waste of time. At the minute Britain has invaded Spain and France and is forming an Empire rather than liberating its allies. There is no attmept to simulate of the problems of the Coalition (in fact you might as well forget the idea), or of Britains role in it, its just a case of choose a country and kill everyone else.

For example: In order to win as Britain I am required to declare war on Prussia and Denmark just because they occupy area's I have to control according to the rather daft victory conditions.

AI performance is slightly better than ETW, but ETW has far more replay value and campaign variation between factions. One absolute must in both instances is a decent MOD, neither game is worth playing without one. I am currently using 'The Rights of Man' on both games (TROM) which at least cures the main issues.

The cannon may be the final argument of kings. But the Total War series is undoubtedly the king of the real time strategy genre - and Napoleon: Total War could very well be Creative Assembly’s crowning jewel.

Total War is a come back for the Total War series: after the uncertain step of Empire, we now are in front of a wonderful game, one with great gameplay. Walking in the shoes of Napoleon is a dream for every strategist and being able to do it in such a game is fantastic. Multiplayer is the icing on the cake.

Napoleon is an enjoyable addition to the Total War franchise but it's not as a big a game changer as previous sequels. While Napoleon and his armies were probably every bit as terrifying as Mongols, Vikings or Barbarians, the scope of this sequel is a bit more limited.

SEGA made good use of the experience made with Empire to improve its RTS formula, resulting in a more effective gameplay. Although Napoleon: Total War has its shortcomings – even with the AI – it still manages to keep the player involved throughout, thanks to its thoroughness and rather accurate historical setting.

Napoleon is a game of land battles, continental conquests and European power struggles. This was an incredibly rich backdrop that inspired numerous writers and composers, one of whom is Beethoven and is featured in game’s phenomenal soundtrack. That I happen to sink a minimum of three or four hours every time I click on the icon is another reason why it’s an enjoyable game.

Napoleon: Total War it's really similar to its predecessor Empire, for better of for worse. Built on a much shorter temporal span, it changes the perspective on the management section of the game while many little improvements on almost every aspects make this the best chapter in the series but the lack of innovation inevitably lowers overall evaluation. Suggested to all strategy lovers unreservedly.

This new chapter in the total War saga brings a new level of historic detail to the RTS and turn based strategy games, polishing a lot of flaws of the recent Empire. Although the much more detailed and intriguing campaign and the new online campaign features do not suffice to not make it look like a huge update rather than a brand-new game. An awesome update, but we should expect something more from a full release of the franchise.

Napoleon Total War is a great RTS game, an incredible homage to the real french emperor. But if you’re willing to accept them, along with the awful AI and the linearity – the most controversial two aspects of NTW – then you’ll probably accept this game as a sequel worthy of the series’ reputation and a proper mise-en-scene for France’s closest call when it came to winning wars.

Napoleon: Total War adds a few important changes. The new reinforcement system and the multiplayer definitely add to the game. The lack of freedom and different factions may detract from the replayability though. You wouldn’t be making a wrong decision to buy this game, but it’s stagnation more than revival after Empire. The next game will have to prove if Total War can be brought back to (new) life.

Good enough. The stronger AI is nice, though the absence of overseas trade, national evolution, and the naval aspects are noticeable. Perhaps this is the streamlined game that Empire should have been, but 40 dollars and one year later, Napoleon should be more generous than it is. As it stands, the game is a decent addition to the series, but not essential.

Napoleon: Total War is a massive strategy game where you'll get the opportunity to wage war in the pursuit of spreading your empire. It's not all rosy though. While the strategic level is an admirable attempt at something halfway between the elegance of Civilization and the historical specificity of Europa Universalis, it doesn't have the benefit of letting a human player take over. Here, once again, the game falls apart when it breaks out of the strict scripting of the story-based missions.

    man i am unsure again

but why oh why did they not simple add an open sandbox game. i mean its obviously not an add on just a reworked recycled old game sold for the price of a new game with added playability. why did they not give u the option of playing sandbox when beaten the scripted campaign. that couldnt have been so much work even. i dont get it.

well i guess i really wayt for 66% deal or so. by that time maybe playable mods will be out that free the game from scripted "linearity"

The extra development time will allow us to finalize and polish Empire, making it the most accomplished and epic of the Total War series." said Kieran Brigden, Studio Communications Manager at The Creative Assembly. "There is a great deal of anticipation around Empire: Total War and we want to ensure that it is the benchmark for strategy games upon its release.
