Default Solution for "unspecified Error" & for 1.3 Patch Problems

    Hello,

As all of us, once a year or so I like to reinstall MIITW and play a new faction each time.
Only this time I couldn't get patch 1.3 installed so I tried to play with Version 1.2 only to find out I get the "Unspecified Error" on battle deployment.
After allmost 2 days of googling without results, I became frustrated and decided to get into the matter and try to solve it by myself.

Apparently there is an "unofficial" 1.2 patch that was released and is circulating the web(which is identical in size to the "official") which does not patch all the files correctly but tells you that the game was patched successfully.
So without any further dues here is the solution:

IMPORTANT NOTE: DISABLE ANY Anti-Virus YOU HAVE INSTALLED DURING THE INSTALLATION OF THE PATCHES. THE UNPACKER WILL SKIP FILES THAT AV WILL TRY TO SCAN DURING THE PATCHING BECAUSE THEY BECOME UNMOVABLE DURING THE SCAN.

    Code:
Let's start by uninstalling the game first by using this guide:
    http://shoguntotalwar.yuku.com/topic/24456

Now do a restart and start a fresh install(i recommend to not
change anything in the setup windows).

When it finishes restart again(just in case)

now download patch 1.2 from here:
    http://www.fileplanet.com/171968/170000/fileinfo/Medieval-2:-Total-War-Patch-v1.2

Install the patch(don't manually extract, let the Self-Extract do the work.
I recommend to not touch the pc until it finished as it has very high HDD usage(unpacker).
    When it finishes, restart.
Now make sure the DVD is in and go into PATH:" main\packs" on the first DVD.
Then open a seperate folder of the game itself and go into packs, by default
    "C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\packs"

Now MAKE sure that all the packs have different size from the packs on the
DVD, if you find a pack with the same size then it means the patch was not successful,
    apply it again.

When finished with that, install patch 1.3 from here:
    http://www.fileplanet.com/180493/180000/fileinfo/Medieval-II:-Total-War-Patch-v1.3-(European)

And that's it. It worked for me great.

FYI, even when I installed patch 1.2 successfully, I still got the "Unspecified Error".
    Only 1.3 did the trick.

Final Words: If you use an Illegal copy of the game and still get the error,
TRY BUYING THE GAME, it costs only 10$ here in Israel, 5$ on steam.
Mods, if this is the wrong section, please move it to the appropriate one, Thanks in advance.

There was an "unofficial" patch released that was 1.02.
The "official" patch released later is 1.02.0001.

They are two different sizes but enough for anyone doing a quick glance to notice. This has been known since 2007, three years ago.

If you you want the official one, get a link off Sega's site or buy Kindoms or Gold.
