Need som starting help

Hi
I haven't played any Total War games before so I could need some basic explaining.
Been playing a little and I sort of make it, but encountered some porblems.
Some regions got riots and rebellions, the "tutor" or "narrator" woman tells me to either lower taxes or use millitary power to stop it, how do I do that? I've lowered all taxes to almost 0 (even stoped some regions to pay taxes), but still they are pissed. I don't know how I shall use millitary power to stop it (have had an army stationed where it was riot, but it didn't seem to help).

Another question: I started with one school, upgraded it to the thing after (if I remember correct). When I got another school in the same region I couldn't upgrade that, even when I had the money. Do I have to research "Empiricim" (Don't remember what it was called so I'm betting) for each school?

I think that was all I had unclear. I appolgize for poor spelling and grammar mistakes, english is not my first language.

I suggest you read through this forum extensivley. You will find a wealth of knowledge that will help all aspects of playing this game.
