I love that the article does not seem to mention how they got to America, only hinting to some strange way of getting their through China.

Yeah its books I remember seeing on the shelf at my uni. There is a book which I skimmed through written by Gavin Menzies who claims the Chinese sailed to the Americas in 1421.

IMO there is no such thing as an age of discovery, you cant categorised a period were everyone was like, "oh lets discover stuff now".

You can't say you've discovered something when there were people there the whole time.

But thats just my opinion.

In a one-page article appearing in Naturwissenschaften, German scientist Svetla Balabanova (1992) and two of her colleagues reported findings of cocaine, hashish and nicotine in Egyptian mummies. there are plenty of stories about chinese voyages to america

as these guys were buddhist monks I don't see why they couldn't have been involved in one.

of course that's if you believe the chinese ever reached america.
