    Default BFG leaves GPU scene.

BFG Tech Announces Exit From Graphics Card Category, Continues On With Power Supplies And Laptops/PCs

Libertyville, IL – May 17, 2010 – BFG Technologies today announced their exit from the graphics card category. The company will continue to sell their line of BFG Tech power supplies as well as their Deimos gaming notebooks and Phobos gaming systems.

"After eight years of providing innovative, high-quality graphics cards to the market, we regret to say that this category is no longer profitable for us, although we will continue to evaluate it going forward", said John Slevin, chairman of BFG Technologies. "We will continue to provide our award-winning power supplies and gaming systems, and are working on a few new products as well. I’d like to stress that we will continue to provide RMA support for our current graphics card warranty holders, as well as for all of our other products such as power supplies, PCs and notebooks."

BFG will continue to offer RMA, telephone and email support for qualified BFG Tech graphics card warranty holders, but will no longer be bringing new graphics card products to market.

First and foremost, I have to say that HardOCP is sad to see BFGTech go. It was a company that opened up new ways of doing business with customers in the graphics card arena. The solid warranties and support you all enjoy now with high-end graphics cards companies can be traced back to BFGTech and its three founders, Scott Herkelman, Ric Lewis, and Shane Vance.

Of course our biggest concern is that our readers that have purchased BFG video cards are taken care of. Speaking this morning with then BFGTech CEO, Scott Herkelman, he assured me that BFG has taken measures to make sure full RMA and support will continue. Eight full time employees and the full group of tech support will remain in place as well as warehouse labor. That means continued 24/7 phone, email, and full RMA support for registered cards. As of today, BFG has a full reserve of cards and monies set aside to sure proper support occurs.

This will hurt for nVidia, BFG was a big player/retailer for them. Now they've lost XFX and BFG, leaving only EVGA to offer lifetime warranties in the Green Camp.

I wonder if this has anything to due with problems with Fermi.

Ouch I knew BFG were I trouble in Eurpoe (they pulled out 5 months ago) but I didn't know it was this bad, I suspect too many people were abusing their warranties .

If EVGA made ATI cards I'd buy a 5870. Even XFX's support is nothing compared to EVGA if you have a problem.

Not true. PNY Fermi cards come with a lifetime warranty.

Every basic owner I've talked to on the internet (with a decent case) is getting around 91C in Crysis (my GTX260's hit 86C) with fan noise only slightly about the GTX200 series. Fermi is by no means a fail.

Is there actually any history of an EVGA cards performing better than others? I mean, I like the idea of dealing with EVGA in a RMA situation, but I will almost always choose performance over CS. Like Asus and the 5850. Went with XFX because I bought it used (transferable warranty), but had I bought new, Asus would have been the clear choice, regardless of their CS issues.

Based on purely anecdotal evidence it would appear BFG suffered from a huge failure rate more then any other Nvidia board partner. Now I know that Nvidia had hardware issues and failures with the 8000 line however I suspect a lot of this is down to BFG customers abusing there warranties looking to get a free upgrade to something more powerful.

There are similar threads to this all over the web. I don't know what there like on your side of the pond but in Europe BFG were considered to be Nvidia's best board partner by far due to there generous warranties, customer support and turn around. It's a big shame they have left the market, Nvidia are poorer without them as it's not just the hardware that sells the card it's also the support and warranty you get that helps push these cards. It would appear to me at least to many people took advantage of BFG's generosity and they have spoiled it for everyone.
