Default Princess' marriages and their children's names

I found that when my princesses marry a foreign general, their children don't keep the surname of their father, but instead take random surnames.
After some extensive searching arround the forums I only found out that the reason for that is that the foreign generals surname is not in my factions names.
And so, I added that name to the factions surname list, but alas no luck. Any ideas if this is the way it's meant to be or maybe if I start a new game(instead of loading the after-marriage savegame) with that faction and find a general with that surname will it work?

EDIT: Typo in title, how do I fix it? XD

    Edited it for you

I've just seen this in my game...and some other mods of M2:TW. I would really like it to be fixed tbh as I like to keep the blood-lines running in my families!

    On a separate note:
I was recently reading a book about Richard the Lion Heart () and had somewhat of an idea - I know nothing about scripting and coding etc so tell me if it's impossible but...

When you steal a general from another faction, would it be possible for territory to come with them? Many M2:TW mods implement titles for their general so could the title be attached to the settlement in some way?

    Example:
My princess marries a French general who has the title for Bordeaux; the lands of Bordeaux then belong to me?

It would add an interesting new use for princesses and enhance realism.

Impossible to implement I'm afraid. Changing a region's ownership can't be scripted unfortunately.

ive also looked at the name problem, but had no luck, as for the land question, well, look at it this way, from a RPers viewpoint, now you have a good reason to "take back" what should be yours by title xD

That's an excellent idea, and it would be even better if independent generals could be married as well.
Now all you need is to find someone who can implement it to the game.

set the "can_have_princess" line to "yes" for the rebels in the descr_sm_factions file and youll be able to marry rebel generals, unless they have the hidden "married" trait

got one of the spanish princesses to marry el cid lol!

I've checked it and as I see, muslim factions also can't use princesses for that purpose - so it's better to leave the independents on 'no' as there are muslims among them as well.

However, that's a useful tip for everyone, +rep!

(Btw El Cid died in 1099, so it's quite strange to see him in the 1100 campaign, but never mind! )

can be implemented for muslim factions as well, although by default you will end up with "pink diplomats" instead of princesses for them, to fix that youll need to edit another file that i cant remember atm (i dont have med 2 installed on this one, ill check on the other pc later), although there is the minor problem of them having no voices, or every now and then speak with the default muslim diplomat voice...

personally in my own game i only allow the moors, turks and egypt to have them, as i consider them more "europeanized" or at the very least, more accustomed to the europeans

The names have been annoying me also. In my English campaign a lot of my family tree branches are of the "Plantagen" name; damn annoying when everyone is called Plantagen. If this is the case then coping and pasting all the names under each faction into a separate word-pad document and then applying the whole list by copying and pasting it under each faction should fix this? The only problem would be that Muslim regions would get a chance to gain Anglo-Saxon type of names, but then again this could just be implemented to the Anglo-saxon-norman factions. Wouldn't be perfect but might be better. This could be easily implemented?

    ^ I think you mean Plantagenet .
On topic I find it really annoying when children are born with random names, so much to the point of restarting my conquests.I didn't know that it was caused by a foreign general. That little tidbit will be helpful in the future, thanks.

ok, heres the the rest, after setting the can_have_princess to yes, go into the descr_model_strat file search for "PLACEHOLDER MTW2 MODELS BELOW" and directly below that should be the princess entries, fist few lines should be changed to:

    type princess
    skeleton princess
    scale 0.7
    indiv_range 40

and you should come out with the right models on the strat map, but always remember to keep a back up

Same thing happened to me in my Denmark camp. I married my princess to Hohenstauf ang I've got Sigursson children. The most annoying.
