    Default Ireland a Protectorate?

Hello. I was wondering if anyone has made Ireland a protectorate of Great Britain before. I've been toying with this the last couple of hours from turn 1 trying to get them to be useful to the GB nation (I personally don't think they are in their current state). So i was thinking of trying to make them a protectorate. Basically I followed this turn sequence

    turn 1:
detroy the magistrate in Dublin and move the army just above it to the Irish Sea crossing. Move the army from just above London as far as you can to group up with the other one. Build 3 Line Infantry in London and bring all the forces from london up as well. Now to make them rebel, you need to raise the taxes all the way on the middle class. I exempt Scotland and England from taxes for acouple turns as general income from trade (which you should still do) provides enough funds to cover everything.

    turn 2:
Ireland strikes. Move all your forces together in the Irish straight and bring the 3 Line Infantry up north as well.

    turn 3:
Ireland revolts. Now your whole army should be together in the straight.

    turn 4:
Irish rebels show up. Over 4 tries now, they have shown up in the exact same spot every time, just above the small lake to the north of Dublin. They consist every time of about 5-7 Militia. Do not do anything.

    turn 5:
Ireland is born. Move the taxes back down to its normal or whatever state you want and stop the exempt from taxes on both England and Scotland. Here's where i come in. I bring in, Churchill, the artilery, 2 cav, 3 line infantry, 3 pikeman, which makes it about a fair fight on the battle meter. As long as its near the middle mark, just hit continue siege and wait for irelands turn where they will attack you. In that attack, I killed as many of them as possible without completely destroying them. But heres where im having my problem. after the battle, i read on KC's Method on obtaining Protectorates, they should offer you a protectorate, but they only offer me peace/trade.

So anyways, i guess the big question is, has anyone actually tried this, doing it right from turn 1 and by 1702 you can have Ireland as a protectorate and making you money?

Well, first of all, the protectorates dont make you money, they just count toward your victory conditions.

Actually, you make about 50% of their tax income, but you also get them as a trade partner, in which over a period of time will net you a ton of money on its own. Also, i'm hoping that Ireland will be sustainable on its own without me having to worry about them, maybe even give them a colony in the Americas and have em run arround there rampant.

Anyways, thanks War&Politics for that. I think I wasn't killing enough of them. Like i think i was leaving 300-400 of them left so I'm going to try to do it again but try to leave only like 100 men or something. I was reading further into KC's guide and he explains further that u need like a whole stack of soldiers too to surround the place to make it work better. Anyways, back to trying cause I think i can generate more money by having Ireland as a protectorate than to own it as a region. I'm going to do some testing to see if thats the case, and if it is going to write a strategy for quick protectorate by 1702.

Go to the income tab, and hover your mouse over "other" or "other income" (I don't remember). Once you hold your mouse over it, a tool tip will come up showing you exactly how much each protectorate is giving you. I'm often surprised at which protectorates give the most.

EDIT: I thought I was on the NTW board, not sure if its exactly the same with ETW

They do make you money as some of their income is transferred to you. Playing as GB I recently made Ireland a protectorate, as you can do with any nations, following the instructions in KC's guide. It's a bit tedious though. The secret is to defeat their forces massively enough to leave their city *almost* but not quite undefended. Then offer them protectorate and they should accept. I also recall having used a threat, and then offering again, in the case where I got Ireland to be my protectorate. It's not easy, but it can be done!

I've recently got protectorates on Wurtemburg, the USA, and France. It can definitely be done!

You cannot do anything with the pirates-they are completely exempt from diplomacy.

As for protectorates-you get half of their income.

I tried making Scotland and Ireland my protectorates as England and it worked. but after a few turns they declared war on each other so i quit the campaign.

Yes, protectorates don't seem bound by your diplomacy at all. They won't declare war on you, but they will on each other, or on other factions.
