Default Used to CTD. Now it just Cs.

I'm sorry that my first post here is an angry one, but I'm pissed beyond belief.

Used to get the CTD error, and I first worked around it by avoid autosaves but it soon became way too regular. I checked out these forums, which helped me before, and I got the RTR_PE_CTD_fix. Apparently this resolved my problem by turning a CTD into a plain old crash, as the program refuses to start.

I fully admit I am not the best with computers, as I lack the patience for unexplained crashes and errors, but this game is- or WAS- one of the best strategy game I have ever played and this situation frustrates me beyond belief. It seems that whenever I try to run a PC game, the computer is either too old or too new with absolutely no leeway between these extremes.

I'm running this one a DELL Studio with Windows 7. Is there some kind of error with this game and Windows 7?

As this is RTR PE I will move this thread there.

RTW adnd RTR work fine with Windows 7 - I am running it on Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.

I know you've avoided the AUTOSAVE (I suggest you turn them off completely in the 'preferences.txt' file) you should also avoid Quicksaves as they are supposed to be buggy as well.

As irishron has posted you need to give us some information on your machine. One way is to run a DXDIAG and include the results in your post. Also let us know what graphic settings you are trying to play the game on inclusing the resolution.

Does the game CTD (or crash) on the Campaign/Strategy Map or on the Battlefield?

I wish I could answer the graphics/resolution questions- the game refuses to start at all. {EDIT} And yes, it used to CTD before the mod.

I will see if I can get information on the specs of the computer itself. {EDIT} It's a dell studio 15. No modifications have been made to it that I know of.

It only crashes on the campaign map, not during battle.

Still pissed/enraged here. Sorry if my responses are a little short and/or rude.

Thinking back, I remember the resolution being 1032 or something like that, not 1600 or 800 or anything like that. I don't know if that helps, but it's all I can think of, because I can't open the file.

Just tried running it again and it still crashes instantly. No luck. Anything to be done?
