    Default Reinforcements.

First of all, great mod and all, and cant wait for RSII,.. BUT there is one thing that annoys me a bit in Roma Surrectum. Indeed, reinforcements. I dont know if this is meant to be, but in the 50 battles that i fought (lets say, 25 of them the enemy or me had reinforcements nearby), there was only 1 battle where reinforcements actually came. Now my question is: is there any way to change this? So that the reinforcements (almost) always come? Or is it way more realistic to just leave it this way?

    Thanks in advance

Open preferences.txt and change UNLIMITED_MEN_ON_BATTLEFIELD to TRUE.

    Will that be in RS2.0?

Because i never had problems with reinforcements , i just keep 2 armys close and they tag along well.

Oh dang, that sure beats tagging a group of spearmen with my light cav and riding circles around the map -- But this would also draw 'reinforcement from a possible nearby town, getting besieged from another legion or two, those guys have a pretty good reason for not showing up.

The default setting is FALSE. That will limit the number of men on the battlefield by what the game thinks is the max your system can handle. You can check this by starting a custom battle and loading up all the unit slots until the total unit count in the top right turns red. So on the campaign map, if the two engaging armies are less than that, and there are reinforcements that keep the total under that number, then they will come.

With it on TRUE, the number of men on the battlefield will be unlimited. In actuality, the reinforcements only rarely are late to the battle. In fact, sine I turned the setting to TRUE, I have never had reinforcements that are delayed.

We really can't provide any 'standard' preference settings because people's video settings are all different. That's something the player has to do, and I believe there is a 'preferences editor' included with the new Launcher RTR graciously allowed us to use.

Okay, thanks everyone who replied, and I will change it to true.
I had no idea it had something to do with my system or graphics card etc, just thought it was something to make the game more realistic

@Drowsy, Im pretty sure cities unders siege cant reinforce nearby armies

Except for when you're attacking the besiegers - then they reinforce the relief force.

Thanks so much for this thread! Same thing happened to me, and I thought it just might be a bug in my game.

A really cool post and great to know how the AI works that out ! I;d always thought it was the way the game was coded.. sometimes you get reinforcements at other times you don;t.

That's obvious - you can't control them yourself if you've already got 20 units on the field! If you uncheck the option to have the other army controlled by the AI, it'll just feed units onto the fields to bring you up to 20, and keep adding them as your routing units leave the field. Let the AI control the army, and it does just that - swarm onto the field and gives you double the manpower.

And a possibly a dead 9 star general, i screamed like a little girly flutist when that happened

Yeah, that can happen. not good. keep your 9-star general for battles where you're in charge.
Incidentally, why a flutist? They aren't any screamier (that i've noticed) than say, a clarinet player?
