    Icon9 CTD's

    Hey Guys

It's my first time starting a campaign on 1.6. Playing as the Romans.

I have never had any ctd's on RS. Now it's popping up everywhere. I've had about 8-10 over about a week. Possibly 15 hours play...

The first question I've seen when talking about ctd's is: Can you re-create it? No. It surprises me every time. Click on training button - boom. Do it again - boom. end turn, do it again, fine. Then loading for battle - boom. Rinse. repeat. Crash. After end turn fine. Then there is faction button, then diplomacy. Latest is in the middle of a battle.
Crashes back to desktop - big black box on two thirds of screen, teeny little window in the middle. Says windows found a problem, had to close program, will search for solution...click...gone is black box and RS.

    Playing 1.6a on Alex exe.
    Specs: Intel i5 750
    XFX Radeon 9700
    4 gb RAM
    Windows 7 64 bit.

Some other weird problems. When deploying rams during start battle, won't move. I can move army, ctrl+a, even units without rams, but rams, huh-uh...
Another one, troops won't move. Had to right click repeatedly, then suddenly they're off. I mean off. Off in all directions. Like headless chickens. Creepy.

Any ideas? Oh, there is a cd crack installed. Who knows? Maybe that.

    Help. Please. I thank you.

I'll go back to 1.5 and see what happens.

    Best thing would be.

    1. Reinstall the hole game...means Alex/barbarians/Rome/RS1.6/

2.when reinstalled add all the offical patch's to the game.

    3. reinstall rome surrectum.

    4. Open the game only with Alexander.exe pure cuz the gameplay is more awsomer etc etc...

    5. CTD's happen, its a fact but not that often...

6.Check your settings also like the sounds , mine was ctd all the time when i changed my sound setting above my current sound card driver , like 3d surround etc, while i just had a normal soundcard onboard thats not some heavy 3D FX worth 200 euro.

the sound made my units say nothing like , when i clicked them, i got a ctd instantly.

it got fixed by putting my sound settings Ingame back to standaard.

i hope i helped a bit, sorry for my bad english , i hate editing my self.

    Thanks for stopping by.

I hate re-installing everything. Pure torture...

    Better than CTD'S, though.

    three things:

    1. The moving Rams and siege equipment - there are problems with this because while the land may look OK, it may be defined underneath as wooded or something like that, basically land you can't take siege equipment into. This has been fixed in RS2 I believe.

    2. Try a different mouse - weird I know but I had the same problem in MTW2 with units doing what the hell they liked that is cause by a logitech wireless mouse, if I use a microsoft one, or wired one, no problem. Worth a shot if you have another mouse.

    3. Can you try without the CD crack?

CD Crack - oops... Only reason my Rome CD still lives...

Logitech Wired Mouse. Clicking problem has only happened once, so far.

I have read about some problems out in the sticks with siege equipment, but I have not seen woods, real or imagined,
this close to a settlement before.

The randomness and the vanishing of the ctd's after End Turn is what is weird.

The campaign continues. So far so good. Very good. Macedon corpses everywhere .

Do you have 'Auto_Save' set to FALSE in preferences? Autosave and 'Quciksave' are very buggy and should never be used. The game will CTD often if you do.

I have always played with autosave on. Never had a problem before. In fact, the autosave is what has saved my progress during
this time. You are right, of course, I have completely forgotten about that.

If the ctd were out of the blue or at end turn, it would make more sense. My little buggers have been cause and effect. When I find a button that cause it, I can recreate the crash, as long as I do not end the turn. Button, crash, load, button, crash, load, end turn, button fine. If this sounds like Mr Auto, then you may have nailed it again, Maestro.

In all fairness, I have put in about another 10 odd hours with no problems. Well, there is the Gauls...

Maybe just a drifter bug, passing through...here today, gone tomorrow...
