My HTPC runs Windows 7 Home Premium, has a 2.9Ghz. Dual Core AMD CPU, 2GB DDR2 800, 250GB HDD, and a fanless ATI 4550. I use a 23.6" LED backlit ASUS monitor with it, and my keyboard is the Logitech Dinovo Edge (has a trackpad for the mouse).

And I just ordered an HT Omega Claro Halo sound card that has a headphone amp to go with my Sennheiser 595's. Tis' a $200 card and will be my first experience with a dedicated sound card and first experience with a headphone amp.

    Lets see your specs

Why does your HTPC use a monitor?

Because he hasn't got it connected to his TV in the main living room, which kind of defeats the purpose of HTPC which are meant to be an all one box for your front living room which replaces your Hi-Fi, TV box/Cable box/Satalite box, DVD/Blu Ray drive etc.

As soon as I can find the right TV card I'll be building my HTPC, I've got all my DVD's saved on an external hard drive (about 200 odd) so all I need to do is sort out the hardware (it's only the TV tuner I'm not sure about) and configure the software and ordering the right input devices at the moment I don't know weather to get a Logictech Harmony One remote or a small wireless keyboard (stylish one) with a track pad/track ball on it.

Then his isn't much of an HTPC if its not being used in a Home Theatre. That's just a SSF pc then.

I have a bluray player and a Yamaha RX-V663 audio receiver to go with my 60" screen. No point hooking an HTPC up to that. It's mainly for music but is definately qualified for HTPC use.

Wow...that's bloody amazingly small. How powerful are they?

By the way, on a side note, where in Canada do you buy from? I'm going back to study university in Vancouver in September.

    Cheers.

Well.. you can get a mITX motherboard that has 1156 (core i5 and i7) and has crossfire on it... so you could have crossfire 5970s and a i7 in a case that would fit it :p

have you taken a look at some hauppage cards? There is some speculation that the new AMD tv tuner cards are good, might check that as well

A HTPC is never practical if you can afford a good TV, DVD, Bluray, theater setup, the hardware and software for a HTPC just isn't as good. You do gain a HDD for storage though.

the point of the htpc is having a good tv or some projector, the rest is in there already.

Take a look at the gizmodo contest about htpcs, there were some really nice ones

software wise, yes the remote is awesomily big, but now you do have the eepc keyboard that is out now

because it is always great to game in a 50'' tv... and aside that you can always record and maintain a good collection of DVD as I have, or as I don't watch tv, just record the damn shos that sometimes I watch, aside that you can have a pc, then there is just no reason

It would be really hard and it wouldn't get very good airflow, take a look at Wheelchair's mobo, it doesn't even have a PCI-E slot, not to mention their aint much space left in his case.
