    Default Patches

    Hi folks,

I just recently purchased TW Empire and Napoleon thru the mail, should be getting them soon.
Is there another way BESIDES STEAM to get the latest patch for Empire?
    Thanks for any advice.

Moved to Empire Total War General Discussion.

As far as I am aware no matter how you buy ETW it runs through steam.

I don't believe there's anyway to patch the game with, say, a pre-downloaded executable file. You're stuck with Steam.

Does Warpath auto-patch? Meh, I guess even if it does, you still have to buy and download it via Steam anyway, so it's not much help.

Steam is the only way. The almighty and allknowing SEGA deemed it so.

Dadgumit, I was afraid of that.
    Okay, thanks for the replies.

BTW, after you load up the game from the DVD, does it automatically send you to Steam?
And so is there an autopatch for Warpath, or is that separate from Steam and the DVD?
Thanks again, looking forward to the games!

I just got Napoleon and as I recall it is either automatic or you click on an icon in the top right. Sadly, no steam = no game. Although, I think you can run your game for three weeks without a steam verification, so I assume the hacker community has a hack. Honestly, since I paid for the game and am not a pirate, I'd be interested in whatever hack it is that disables the need to constantly log in with steam - just leery of being stuck with games that would play when steam closes whenever that might be.

    Okay, thanks Akmatov.
Ack, I have to log in with Steam EVERY TIME I load up the game!?!?
Paradox and Ageod don't require that for their games ~~ bummer.

You have to load up steam everytime you play but you can run it in offline mode, so you don't need to actually be on the internet everytime.
