Default Excel Date Formats- Help Needed

    Hi All,

This has got to be one of my first posts in the Thema Devia, so hi everyone!

I've got a question for you fine people in the hope that you'll be able to help me with something for my work.

I've downloaded a spreadsheet I need for my work and I need to change the dates to UK date format DD/MM/YYYY. They are currently in US date format MM/DD/YYYY.

The spreadsheet does not allow the format to be changed by going to Format Cells, that function seems to be disable. Copy & pasting into a separate spreadsheet and formatting them doesn't work.

Do you guys know of a formula or workaround which I could use to get them into the right format?

    I'll subscribe to the thread.

    Thanks guys

If the cell is locked, there is nothing you can do to change it. If the cell is NOT locked then right clicking the cell and going to Format Cells should work.

    In Office 2007:

    Home > Format > Lock/Unlock cell

    This may require a password.

The cells aren't locked, and going to format cells doesn't work.

I just don't understand why it doesn't work. I wouldn't mind re-typing them into the correct format, but the spreadsheet's about 1500 rows and I really can't be bothered to do that.

Is there not a type of formula or workaround which can move characters around and populate a cell with the rearranged characters?
