Default How to counter dismounted knights with Moors ?

I am currently doing a moorish campaign and I found it is hard to defeat european armies those with full of dismounted knights and men at arms they have excellent defence and great morale stats.

Javelin cav is not doing that much damage as far as I experienced and they just too quickly run out of ammo.

    Any suggestion appriciated.

Spawn full stack horse javelineers and skirmish the knights, as soon as you run out of ammo retreat your army and fight again next turn. Just keep withering them down for ~5 turns and then send in a real moor army to finish them off.

Or you can wait it out with diplomacy until you can produce those Christian... thingys and Camel Gunners.

Well your own infantry mostly consists of spearmen, who are useless against dismounted knights, however, units such as urban milita and dismounted arab cavalry will do you a job before you get the christian guard. When using these units make sure to bring some heavy cavalry to charge into the rears of the enemy, as this is likely to be the only way that you'll beat those men of steel

If you dont want to rely on javelin cav to kill knights Hashashim (assassin dudes) are your best call.

Hashishim, Dismounted Chrstian Knights, Mounted Christian Knights, or any decent archer units set to skirmish.

Desert archers are a nice archer unit, pretty long range missiles, cool looking. When you use the Desert Cavalry or Granadine Jinetes, try to circle around the enemy an start throwing javelins once you're in that position, you'll cause more casualties. I wouldn't recommend neither dismounted Arabs nor Urban militias, their morale seems to suck compared to the heavy infantries of Europe. Get a Hashashim's guild as soon as possible, Hashashim are great units, they beat dismounted Feudal knights one on one although the feudals have twice as much men. Also Hashashim have excellent morale, and 2 hit points, plus they can hide anywhere, so it's best that you take them to be your main infantry force. If you have to go with Urbans and Arabs, be sure to flank the enemy as soon as possible. If you've taken Toledo, build a Caravan Stop there, and as soon as it becomes a citadel (and gunpowder is discovered) build Caravanissary, once it's built all your problems disappear

Normal javelineers, and good tactics with your Mounted javelineers should work. Add some Desert archers and maybe some Lamtuna spearmen to hold them in place. Once you get Christian guards, you're coolio's. Those badass units can beat three units of Crusader spearmen surrounding them entirely. (As I have experienced with sieging Moorish castles )

Christian Guard, Dismounted Christian Guard, Moorish Peasant Crossbowmen, any missile cavalry, and perhaps Granadine Lancers will do. Attack the enemy's rear to negate their armor(?!) and shields and to greatly demoralize them.

Have your Lamtuna/Berber Spearmen hold the line so the enemy is concentrated on them (Guard mode) Bring your Desert Cavalry around and throw spears at their backs. Upon running out of ammo, or your Spearmen get to Wavering, charge. It should do some good. Dismounted Arab Cavalry can stand up to (Not take on) Knights when fully armoured.

Thanks for replys! I just realized that Granadine Crossbow Cavalry are great counter for both armoured mounted and dismounted knights of Europe. However, in forests they are hard to use but I can avoid fighting in forested areas. Also, for sieges I have to rely on Hashassims, or I can just wait them out.

Commander5xl, I am far away from my homelands, right now fighting in the dark forests of Germany. So climate bonus is in favour of my enemies.

Heres another suggestion. Build a Leather Tanner in every city/castle. Most Moorish units are upgraded with leather and that can be the difference between a victory and defeat.

    Crush them with cavalry!

A couple of charges with your general = no more knights.

Try combining armies of generals = plenty heavy cavalry, all you need then is just a handful of archers and a few spearmen.

I've found that Camel Gunners will rip heavy infantry to pieces. Like everyone else has said, just use your versatile cavalry (Christian Guard, Desert Cavalry, Crossbow Cavalry, Camel Gunners, etc.) to your advantage. Also, dismounted Christian Guard should be able to hold out against some of the European knights.

I'm doing a moorish campaign right now, and have been having ridiculous fun destroying french aventurriers and noble knights with a combination of jinetes and christian guards. Send the jinetes around the flanks to pepper them with javelins, and use the christian guards for hit and runs. I was totally ecstatic when I saw a full unit of dis. noble knights get routed in 3 charges. And personally, I love disabling the skirmish mode on the jinetes when they're halfway through their ammo, and using them for charges on the rear and flanks. I feel like a straight g when this full stack in shining plate is rapidly falling into disarray, with the prisoners racking up to near 500, 600.

make full ha and light cav armies...
skirmish them till ur ammo and, then try to isolate unit by unit and attack them with all ur units.
then send a normal army of yours to do the rest

    As Moors --

    Granadine Crossbow Cavalry.

    and PEASANT Crossbowman.

It is easy to overlook the 'peasant crossbowman' in the moorish roster, because of the peasant name, but if you look you will see they are armed with the Steel Crossbow -- same as Merc Crossbowman / Pavise Crossbowman.

These guys are a lot better than the crossbow militia moors have because those only get a wooden crossbow.

So what if your units can't go one to one vs european knights, you should easily be able to shoot them to pieces by the time they get to your men. Moors = Urban Militias from the Cities... Cavalry and Archers/PEASANT crossbowman from the castles - easy =)

Christian Guard (mounted or not) as well as GCC and peasant crossbowmen are the trick.
