Expected date of release?

hi i have just bought rome total war again and looking for mods is it worth me downloading 1.6 or should i just wait for 2.0? has anyone have any idea when the mod will be done in a day, week, month, year?

It's done when it's done, I'm sorry, but we can't say it because we don't know for sure.
Imagine we say: in two weeks, the Monday. And then, two days before release, we find some game breaking bug, that will take a week to fix. What should we do? If we don't release it, imagine the deception, yet the alternative is not viable.

As for playing RS1.6 or not, I'd say yes. What can you loose?

but they seem to have release dates, hell RTW, ETW AND nearly every other real game out there had or has a release date

Look this is how it is. In the gaming industry publishers set a release date after some consideration with the developer. The developer therefor only got an certain amount of time to make sure that the game is ready and stable. However if you look at most games now days they never are. If you look at ETW for a example, there were tons of things that had to be fixed after the release. Heck the latest patch was released some months ago and that's a year after the release! Another example would be NTW. If you bought the game at the release you would notice that there was already one patch to be downloaded. That's because they had made fixes after that the game had been sent to the cd printing.

Now look at our situation. We are a free mod developer. We do not have any publisher and we do not gain any salary from the game. As this is something we have spend much of our free time doing we are really keen to make sure that it is released with the best possibly standard. We don't want to release daily patches to fix bugs that made it trough our testings. We don't want to break your saves so that you would have to restart every time you upgraded your game with yet another patch.
I'm not saying that we wont patch the game, because we certainly will do that. However those patches will include new material as well as fixes and we hope to make as few of them as we can.

Now you see that it is impossible to give you or any other fan a date. We will announce it some days before the final release date.

ay im not going to buy starcraft 2 anymore because they have put it off for so long. When i first heard of it back in 07 i think i thought it was nearly done. There was so much anticipation that it died out.

My estimate is about November

Well, just to put you guys at ease we have pretty much got our release date sorted. We're not going to publish it yet, but it's finally looking very near. We'll let you know approximately one week before.

In answer to "Why can't we give a release date?" - well we've given rough estimates before and they've all been WAY out, so we'll wait until everything is good.

There are no known bugs in RS2, virtually no crashes (and even then only things that are known RTW bugs), economics are really shaping up well, and there are just one or two more graphics to fix.
