That is a simplistic view. It is the same view that allows people to believe that Iran wouldn't support Sunni terror groups in Iraq, when they did, and still might. And that they are not making nice with the various anti-US factions in Afghanistan.
Not by 2017, but if the business of religious leadership is able to survive (which I dont think it will), despite the natural path towards progressive ideas by it's young population, then Iran will surely only continue to export it's already significant power. And although their military power on a regional scale is already formidable, the actual power they wield is as the voice for the region. Regardless of sect or denomination, the lower classes of other countries tend to follow Iran, as they are seen as the only Islamic power to truly stand up to the West. And as such, they still tap into dissent quite effectively.
In that sense, the map above isn't totally outside the realm of possibility. And some people would argue, that if the religious leadership continues, it will do so by crushing resistance, emboldening itself further, and eventually tapping into the radical trend that exists in Islam right now. I mean, it really already is.
The spread of 'empires' isn't always, or totally done by force, and no greater example are the Muslim empires of old. The level of piety that exists in Islam, has always allowed for this to happen. While other religions have waned in this respect, Islam has not. And there is no reason to believe that it cannot happen in modern times. After all, it is the hallmark of US foreign policy to prevent things like this, for good reason. And the rest of the world, not least of which, Iran's neighbors, are worried. First step in all of this, is becoming a nuclear power.

The powers delegated by the proposed Constitution to the federal government are few and defined. Those which are to remain in the State governments are numerous and indefinite. The former will be exercised principally on external objects, as war, peace, negotiation, and foreign commerce; with which last the power of taxation will, for the most part, be connected. The powers reserved to the several States will extend to all the objects which, in the ordinary course of affairs, concern the lives, liberties, and properties of the people, and the internal order, improvement, and prosperity of the State. - James Madison
Ba'athism has been one of the dominant ideologies throughout the Middle East. Whilst it is decreasing, countries like Egypt, Jordan and Syria have been heavily influenced by it. Up untill 7 years ago Iraq was a massive Ba'athist bulwark against Islamism. It's ironic in tragic way that by destroying Saddam's reign we basically created a power vacuum not only in Iraq itself, but throughout the Middle East that Islamism profits from.

I doubt it. Conquest of the Middle East by Iran isn't possible because they lack the military muscle, so they would quickly see their efforts stopped. I doubt that the Arab nations will enter a military alliance with one another either except possibly guaranteeing one another's independence. All in all, with the decline of the Ottoman Empire, the Muslim World ceased to be a significant power factor on the international stage.
Also, the World is ending in 2012.
I really doubt the US (or rest of the world powers for that matter) would stand idly buy as Iran tries to roll through Iraq.

No. But i admit the map looks totally awesome with the IRANIAN Juggernaut spreading its wings over the ME. I'm surprised they didn't so casually cover up all of Israel yet. Do they admit defeat!? lol

I do think it's entirely possible for the Iranian-style revolution to spread through the Middle East, I'm just not sure it would be that cohesive, due mostly to the Sunni-Shi'ite divide.
If America left Iraq prematurely and the government collapsed I do believe it would be incredibly likely in that country, and I believe it would be likely that the Arabian countries would follow.
