Yeah a 5850 would work. The 240m would die yes.

Are you sure you want a gaming laptop? Because carrying that around will be a hassle as it is heavy and bulky, you'll have a bad back after months of carrying that. Plus you will have a horrid battery life with that graphics card. With a desktop, you get much more power, graphics, for a much lower price. Finally, I haven't heard great things about Alienware. I was considering buying one but was turned off by the reviews I read which described it as ridiculously overpriced, and horrible customer service. Search around other brands as well like Asus.

thats like the 90329043204930249th time ive seen someone about someone else getting a gaming laptop, he wants a gaming laptop so leave him alone, if he was planning on getting a desktop then he wouldn't be posting about a laptop

well not everyone is very well informed. User is going to make a big purchase rather him just have this information even if it's redundant.

never buy alienware, it is like buying apple stuff without the style. it is weird these days, I was almost an exclusive newegg shopper, but I find myself checking out bestbuy more and more. I would choose the 2nd but it is up to you to make the choice.

That blew me away. "Turn on the TV," he'd say. "What are you seeing? People selling their products? No. People selling the fear of you having to live without their products." freakin' A, was he right. Fear of aging, fear of loneliness, fear of poverty, fear of failure. Fear is the most basic emotion we have. Fear is primal. Fear sells.” WWZ

Ofcourse it's going to work. I ran Empire on a 9600M GT and I could run Medium-High at 1280x800. Don't expect it to max everything and cruise though, it's going to struggle if you push it.

I'll say what everyone else is going to say though. Unless you absolutely need a single portable gaming machine, build a desktop instead. You'd get better value for money with a Netbook & Desktop combo and have a better gaming machine to show for it.

    Screw "Gaming" laptops.

    And screw alienware too.

    My advice? Neither.

Whatever lappy you get, get an extended warranty, or some kind of insurance against faults and accidents. They're sickeningly expensive to repair.
