Reskinning tutorial?

Hey, I recently started a campaign with the French in ETW. They look pretty okay, except for their "Regiment Etrangere". I swapped that skin with the Coureurs de Bois/ Green jackets skin. Looks better, but still kinda meh. Now if I could mod their colours, making them white and red 'the "Legion Etrangere" colours), that would look pretty awesome. I've never done any skinning before and can't seem to find a tutorial. Any help with this? Thanks in advance.
