Default Adding Loyalty and Shadowing to RS 1.6

So I've been trying to activate loyalty and character rebellions in RS 1.6, similar to how it is in SPQR. So far I've managed to activate loyalty in the game, along with the appropriate traits, however after a few turns of a campaign the game CTD's with no message. What I've been doing thus far is placing a recruited general outside of a city, giving him a trait which reduces his loyalty to 0 as well as a few troops and then hitting 'end turn' to see if he rebels. The game will complete turns a few times but then simply crash, with no message.

Any idea what i'm doing wrong? If it's worth noting, I'm using the slave faction as the shadow faction and I have added ownership of units appropriately.

    Thanks in advance!

I have tried repeatedly to add shadowing to RS2...to no avail. I don't think it works in RTW.

That's really strange, there are quite a few guides which say that it works with RTW and SPQR certainly has it working.

Thanks for the replies guys, I'll give that a try Squid.

EDIT: I've tried what you suggested Squid, however there is no loyalty indicator on the character sheet now (loyalty not listed alongside command, management etc). Aside from that, I recruited a general, gave him the disloyal 3 trait (-3 loyalty) and had him sit outside a settlement with a small army for about 20 turns - nothing seemed to happen. Should I perhaps wait longer?

Also - what would happen if the Senate was made the shadowing faction?

The slave faction cannot be used to shadow. If you have no faction specified as a showing faction any rebelling generals should automatically rebel to the slave faction.
