Default data error (cyclic redundancy check)

I tried reinstalling my copy of M2TW, (odd urge to conquer the world as Byzantium) and I keep getting an error that prevents me from installing it.

I took the following screen print.

Any help that could be offered would be greatly appreciated... as I really want to play.

CRC errors are usually because the disc is either dirty or scratched and the drive can't read it. Try gently cleaning the disc first. If that doesn't work then check for scratches. If scratched try rubbing in a very small amount of toothpaste into the scratches and then try again. Make sure to wipe the excess toothpaste off first!

If that doesn't work then something else will need to be done - come back if that happens. Good luck!

I did notice some residue on the disk, I'll try cleaning it first, (I'm a bit iffy on the toothpaste suggestion but will try it if all else fails) Thank you for the advice. I'll be back after to report my findings, (for good or ill.)

I know how ridiculous the toothpaste suggestion might sound like but it actually does work - the paste fills in the scratches and reduces the refraction of the laser. Just take care to use as little as possible and to wipe the disc afterwards to remove any excess. Good luck!
