Aragon, Castille or Portugal?
Aragon, Castille or Portugal?
Aragon. They got archers, AP units, good cristian order soldiers, better to exapand any direction.
Kill Them All, Let God Sort Them Out!
I forgot what AP stands for, armor piercing? I think ive settled on Portugal for now. Ive Always wanted to try out their aventuros.
Portugal, Aventuros and Portuguese arqebrusiers are awesome. only thing i don't like about them is the slow start, but once you get Cordoba it should be piece of cake
IMO Aragon, better Javelinmen which are a crucial part of my playing style, especially being the almighty almughavars, their generals look cool too, with that bit of armor on the horse and leather satchel whatever over the shoulder. Their navy doesn't get all that great but my games never last that long anyway. But I love whippin on the Italians and the French, much easier access and the pope always excommunicates most of those guys.
Portugal. Position and units are fun. Almughavars almost make me pick Aragon but it's just one unit that is cool though they are some of the most deadly infantry around so early in the game. Jinetes are available to all factions and that is probably the single most important unit for any of the Iberian factions if used correctly.
Not to Aragon unfortunately, they get Alforrats, regular light cav {fast} instead...Jinetes are available to all factions and that is probably the single most important unit for any of the Iberian factions if used correctly.![]()
id have to say aragon for 2 reasons, basque archers and knights of montessa, and yes, i know that once you capture the aragonese lands as the other iberians you get to recruit basque archers, but you cant beat having from the start xD
I love Almughavars but lacking Jinetes kills Aragon for me. Leon-Castille bores me, and has the strongest start of all the Iberian factions, so I rarely play them. I usually end up playing Portugal when I'm being one of the christian Iberian factions. Starts out nice and weak and has a good all around unit list.
Not only that but once you get a few bars of xp for them and some more armor they can take out enemy HC pretty well not just weaken them.
At basic starting level they cast their javelins and run away weakening enemy HC enough the rest of your army have easy time finishing job. Powered up they can complete the job by themselves hugely saving losses of your entire army. Lure enemy cavalry away from army and execute them.
Especially fighting Moors and France as an Iberian faction the cavalry are really the main threat either of those armies have. Arab cavalry are slaughtered by Jinetes while the enemy generals minimum 50% losses or more depending on terrain etc. Early Feudal Knights etc also suffer huge with their low armor and Jinetes fast enough to get out and lure them before those knights hit your lines.
MOORS!

Spoiler for Dangerous stuff:
Agreed. They beat all of them.
Of the other three: Aragon. Let me list everything they have:
Two knightly orders, both slightly better than the Templars/Hospitalers
Alforats of whatever it is; superb light cavalry unit for early game (late game as well, actually)
Gendarmes of whatever those heavy guys on horses (and on foot as well) are called
Pike & Shot is especially good for the southern European factions, though their artillery isn't as strong as the Italian ones.

I always play Castille in Spain. I might try Portugal now...
