Default Anyone ever win with Mongols VH/VH?

Been playing Mongols which are very fun but I am at 600k florins in the hole at turn 32. I am using RR/RC =p but has anyone actually won with them? I cant seem to figure out if they can actually take over enough to recruit units. Also I am wondering why the cannon fodder slave unit costs money to recruit.. they should be free if they're slaves =p

I did start a campaign but id dint get very far, i didnt like having to waste alot of my archers in seiges, so i stopped, i think i could've completed it, but really i was only about a dozen turns in so who knows?

As for the slaves (i didnt get as far as them, or im not using RC/RC im not sure which) but i guess its because they need some sort of weapon, or soldiers to stop escaping from the slave cage, or catching the blighters...

Not to mention slaves need food, water, shelter, clothing etc.

Sweet theyre one of my fav factions, will the generals get a new model? Like a mongolian leader? Well the thing about the slaves is yeah they should have an upkeep but they would just equip them with whatever they had already. Tho if the economy isnt so bad in the next patch can actually use them mwahaha.

I beat the Khwarezmians in my Mongol campaign on 6.1 VH/VH and got me a nice empire, well, pretty much identical to the Khwarezmian one Then I captured Jerusalem, Antioch and Acre, so my cash is at 47 000 now. My reputation is Despicable I had to keep my generals' dread up It's strange to me how the Mongol units have such low upkeep though, like below 100 for some units.

I got to about turn 50 in my Mongol campaign on VH/VH. I was one of the most powerful nations in the world and my territory was basically the entire Middle East, having knocked out Khwarezmshah, Seljuks, and nearly the Fatimids as for the main ones. I had a close alliance with the Cuman Khanate from the very early game to ensure I would only have to fight on one front and from there I basically just blitzed Persia, gave myself about 5 turns to regroup and then blitzed the Caucasus and Levant area. Be sure to avoid a war on two front and repair that economy ASAP. I conquered on a timetable, meaning I gave myself until turn 20 to conquer Persia (finished at turn 14 ), then until turn 20 to regroup and then until turn 40 to conquer the Seljuks, etc. You can do it if you just plan carefully! Thought I have yet to reach Eastern Europe by ~1240 (about turn 20) the way the real Mongols did!

Crazy right! However it becomes considerably less surprising when you take into account that a mongol warrior could live for 14 days off of milk and blood from their horses. If you add to that the fact that mongol society was (at least before they their empire began to break down) based around subsistent nomadic farming so supplies were gained from their herds.

Yes they probably had to buy supplies, since the tribes obviously did not go everywhere the warriors went, but yeah not that expensive when you think about it.

I forgot to mention, I had an alliance with the Cumans too, sent my diplomat their way immediately. Few turns later nobody wanted an alliance with me anymore

Pretty surprising considering your empire, dreaded generals and despicable reputation. Those westerners just don't know how to properly behave...

OK historically the low upkeep makes very much sense, Mongols were really efficient warriors. It's weird in the game considering the upkeep of other factions' units and their quality compared to the Mongol troops. They were made to be unstoppable.
