Default Which faction for a 2nd time through?

I beat the map as Rome VH/VH pretty easily (rome is just op). I want to try a new faction, something different. I tried pergamon, as I figured it would be a challenge and would get a lot of variety, and it seems good. Carthage also, but using ships annoys me. Or perhaps an asian faction to be totally different. Which would you recommend -- for flavor and challenge!

Getai , very good infantry, good mercenary's available, very good cavalry, and their falxman and dii warriors are awesome.

    Pergamum is pretty fun.

I'd reccomend either the greek cities or macedon. Simply because greece has an awesome map, and the civil war at the beggining is fun. Cities keep falling into different hands. When you've conquered the whoe area, you'll soon be worrying about rome and pergamum. It's non stop action. Out of the two, I'd probably go with... macedon.

Syracuse is fun too though. Hehehe you can tell I like greek factions.

Pathia? Very different way of fighting and a pretty severe economic outlook at the beginning

One problem is that the Selucid AI (maybe the AI in general) has great problems with anti-horse archer tactics and are therefore not much of a problem unless you are significantly outnumbered.

Don't play it on Vh/Vh. h/vh is actually harder due to a RTW bug.

The Selecuid's as you get attacked by Pergamon, Armenia, Parthia, Pontus and the Ptolymes nearly all at the same time after turn 1 or two so your fighting on all fronts straight off and your economy is just a pile of pants!

Macedon is a pretty cool faction as well .. a real powerhouse (you have to fight off the Greeks and the Getae straight off) and then Carthage ...

    Cheers

    Armenia.... is pretty easy
no seriously I'd go for the gauls, Make sure you conquer the british regions so that if the romans or germans kick you off europe you still have a good base (with Tara as capital ofcourse, not those stinking brits! irish nationalisme, it just funny) The germans are pretty hard.. a harder version of the gauls.... at least if rome beats the **** out them

getai(chomping up phalanxes and then romans is pretty fun),

The roman senate campaign is pretty awesome. Once I civil war against them I'll let them take all of Italy while I hold the equivelent of the eastern roman empire and have fun watching them conquer Gaul and Iberia, or at least, that's what I'm planning. Also not allwoing myself to gain the imperial reforms until the senate are dead.

I've actually refused to capture Tarentum because it has an imperial palace in it so to hold off the reforms.

I recommend the Cimmerians! Playing a farewell to RSI campaign with them right now, and they are pretty awesome .

Carthage was pretty cool. After taking the Mediterranean islands and all of Iberia, I fought the great Thirty Year Border War with Gaul in the north of Iberia. The Greeks (Epirote) destroyed the Romans (damn) and I decided to go into Italy from the south. After pushing them out I went for Gaul with a three pronged fork. Iberia, Italy and naval invasions that drove through the middle.
Citizen unrest was a pain. I really suffered the first 100-150 years. If you are a better manager than I am, go for it. Troops have great variety, heavy infantry mercenaries and the mock legions (can't remember the name) were my favourites. You can fight a la Roman, a la Greek or even a la Mix. Great choices.

I''l keep an eye on your thread to find my next campaign. Let us know. Good luck.

Sarmatia anyone? I've played them and they have very good infantry and HA armies, so you can mix that up. forgot what kind of infantry they had.. but it was mostly heavy infantry and of course Sarmatian heavy cavalry

Wow, a lot of people like the Getae.

Someone above said the cimmerans (however you spell it). They are a really odd faction- you have a mix of greek and getae troops (and can hire nomad mercenaries), and you start right next to the massive but thinly spread samaritans. You will probably end up fighting pontus and the getae on two fronts. So if you want a really unique campaign, choose them.

Once again you can see my total bias towards the greek factions.

I didn't even bother with them and went right after the Bosporans and the Getai, those worthless cities aren't worth the 30 turns it takes to take them

What about something like this: Rome: Deliberate Insanity Version Basically, play rome and kill off everyone in my family who doesn't have some kind of mental defect to get as many bat- insane generals as possible, and only use them to conquer the world. And actually obey the senate, which will ensure I am at war with everyone at once. Maybe to add challenge as well abandon italy and form in some new place with nice local troops (england maybe?). Any thoughts? One of my favorite generals was Nero The Derranged last win -- dude had 9 stars and had some serious issues. But his speeches were hilarious, and he rampaged through greece like an elephant in a china shop.
