like the topic says I just wanted to see where they can build stuff and they can't seem to build kataphractoi or agema(horsemen). I have RTR 6.2 with 6.2 music add-on. I checked Bactrian and they can build kataphractoi.

I guess they can only do it post reforms .
Some factions in RTR can build kataphractoi right away, like the Parthians. On they other hand, they only have 2 settlements to begin with. Seleucids have dozens, but can only build their agema variant after they've built the right buildings first. If I remember correctly, Antioch is the largest settlement and if you build the right type of stables you get to build them, but in the beginning of the game the cost is prohibitive, trust me. Takes quite a bit of dough to have them waltzing about, mind you.
You can't build Seleucide Agema before the marian reformbut after you get Syrian archer, Kataphractoi and imitation legionnary. An all new army

So antioch is the only place that can build katas? I will have to see check that again 2 night after work. I'm trying to figure out another faction to pla after I'm done with my macedon campaign so I'm scouting seleucids and trying to see their situtation. Sometimes I really dislike the marian reforms

When do peopel usually get the Marian reforms? I'm near 136 BC and still haven't gotten them, despite being Roman and having about 7 Imperial Palaces built over a period of 20 years.
1. are you roman, 2. are they in italy?
if either, then its a totally random factor. Its not inclined to happen at any specific time except after 220 or so BC.

When i'm not Rome, the reform happen always around 190-180 bc when rome have 2 imp palace. (sometime i help Rome with the cheat code to boost population of Capua when they are not doing wellto get the reform)

Is it a bug then that the Seleucids can build Agema from the start in Epiphaneia, but not Cataphracts?
Please report that bug toOriginally Posted by Narog

Done.
The cataphracts are supposed to be a post reform unit, so no bug there.
But Agema are cataphracts! Only with higher stats.
I don't see a reason why they should be available from the start of the game when cataphracts are not.
You can build them in Media. Nowhere else.
After researching this topic since my original post I came up with the following:
1. The selucids can only build Agema in Media at the start of the campaign. They are a special unit. The katas are only available after the romans have gotten their reforms (this is not a bug).
2. The selucids use the xystophoroi (that other heavy cav like hetairoi but with a shield and a slghtly lower attack) and later on replace it with the katas.
3. If romans die off before the reforms then no reforms will happen and all special units that other civs get after the reforms get closed completely.
4. And to my own experience the romans have never gotten the marian reforms when I am not playing them. I have played almost until 130 bc as numidians, selucid, bactria, and I have spied them and they have usually atleast one inperial palace in rome. This might just be me having bad luck.
I hope this helps clarify any one's mind regarding this topic. It took me a while to figure it out.
