    Icon9 Unbearable Lag

    Hello. I like to play RTW, but it gets so annoying sometimes. I'll start it up, go to a campaign, and everything is fine. But at least thirty seconds into the game, the campaign map starts lagging, the mouse is laggy, and everything is laggy about it. The only thing that goes at normal speed is the music and sounds. I have lowered all the graphics settings to as low as possible. Here are some of my specs.

    Windows Vista
    AMD Phenom X4 9750 Processor
    NVIDIA GeForce 9100

    All help is appreciated.

    Is it any particular part of the map or all the map?

    Post your dxdiag to see what is "under the hood".

    The usual advice is to;

    1) make sure that your graphics card drivers are up-to-date
    2) defrag your hard drive
    3) make sure that there is as much free space as possible on your hard drive
    4) use msconfig to remove as many background and unwanted services as possible
    5) have a spring clean of the PC to remove any build up of dust (use compressed air)....

    Have a read of this thread it could be of some use: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=100384

    @Irishron, It's all of the map. Also, I'm not much of a computer whiz, but I'll google how to get to the dxdiag.

    @Brusilov,
    1) They are
    2) I'm not sure how to >.<
    3) okay
    4) okay
    5) Yea, it's been a while since it's been cleaned.

    Thanks for all your help guys. It's kinda late here, but I'll make sure to do it tomorrow.

    I've forgotten how to defrag a hard drive using Vista as well. I'm on my old laptop with Windows XP on it at the moment.

    If you can bring up 'my computer' or even 'Wndows Explorer' (right mouse click your start button). When you see a list of drives right mouse click the one with the game on (usually the 'C' drive) and select properties - this will bring up a Window and there should be a 'Tools' tab. On this tab there may be options to 'check for errors' and 'defrag'. It's the defrag one you want. Expect it to take a while (a few hours to an overnight job) depending upon how large the drive is.

    It's usually a problem when you've installed and uninstalled a number of games or large files/folders.

    If you can't see your drives to get the options I've guessed at the Windows Help on your PC should be useful - put in 'defragment'.

    Edited: No problems helping out - we all learn from somewhere or someone or through some other experience.....
