CTD's galore :(

First off I would love to give my appreciation to the entire mod community who have worked on this game. Its EPIC! hands down and I love playing it. The problem is CTDs of all sorts from beastment and rebel encounters, sieges, saved games, ect.

I run win7 64 bit with UAC turned off. I have it installed off of HP's system with the English translation. I have reinstalled the mod 4 times now each time with different CTDs I have tried playing as 5 empire factions, dwarfs and Khorne. About 8 campaigns in total from turn 5-41 which is as far as I have gotten. Each which ended up being unplayable due to CTDs and saved games turning into automatic CTDs

I love the 1.4 info and hope it solves the CTDs because i've had all TW games since shogun and this byfar is the best Total War of any type! I'm going to try DLing the torrent full install and see if that fixes anything when 1.4 comes out.

The only thing I can think of is autosave screwing it up. I thought I saw a thread how-to turn it off, but unfortunatly I cannot find it again Anyone know how to turn off autosave?

So I DL'd HP's torrent and threw it on for a try. I started off as Reikland and got into the 1st scripted battle and CTD. My saved game CTD right when I tried to reload it also Anyone have any ideas on this, is it the autosave messing it up? Any help is greatly appreciated

Honestly, I have no idea why it would be doing that. I have never encountered the issue where it CTD's upon loading a save-game. Which translation are you using? It'd also help if you posted your systems.log, located here: C:\Program Files (x86)\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\logs

I'm running the English translation from your post that you linked. Its a fresh install from your torrent (nothing else was added). I'm on a new quadcore intel with a 9800 GTX, fresh install of Win7 ultimate. UAC is off and I'm running the application as an administrator. Thank you very much in advance for your help HP <3

Your log says that it could not find the "Getman Province" and that may cause the CTD.

There must be something messed up in your files. Previously there were several problems relating to this one (with CoW 1.02 and its hotfix). I suggest you to do the following:

Delete your teutonic folder, run a registry clean, then re-install only the torrent from The Holy Pilgrim! (it contains translations etc. I'm afraid you have overwrited something with an older translation.)

Try to start the game without anything else added.

And anyway, please give us a feedback. If this do not work, then maybe there are some corrupted files in your download.


Autosave does not mess up if nothing else is added beside the torrent. CTDs after multiple generals battles (especially Beastmen and scripted battles) is unfortunately a known bug, but the team is working on fixing that. During your reload you might receive the loading bar CTD, which is also known and the team is also trying to fix.

I will attempt what you said, although i'm unsure how-to do a registry clean. I'm pretty savy with PCs but never really venture into the registry. If you could give me some directions how-to do that I'm sure i'll be able to follow them, thank you in advance

Just download a free registry clean program (for example Eusing registry clean, but any other will do. choose a symphatic one) and run a registry clean. It will remove the unneeded registries those remain after manually deleting programs (or even after uninstalling as many programs leave the trash behind them on your computer) and can cause some mess after a new install. Then just simply reinstall (extract) the torrent to its relevant place (Medieval II\mods) and enjoy the game.

Hi Bela, me too have repeated CTD after battle resolving. I've the torrent file, I've cleaned the registry and I've tried with more translations and with original torrent files too. When the Chaos attack my Dietershafen city (I'm the the Nordland barony) he win the battle and the program go on CTD after the battle results end screen. I've tried 4 times (sic).

Any idea ?

Tried another time same error but I can be more specific.
After the battle the program load the strategic layer and after that it goes to CTD with this words "unspecified error - the game will exit"

Thanks for your kind words Method-, but unfortunately there are still bugs left which must be caught and corrected. I'm chasing now the one that funks has reported. I made some changes in the torrent files, but I need to do some testing in order to see if the bug is fixed.

dude Bela you're a life-saver. I installed HP's real recruitment mod yesterday and had the best gaming session so far, playing as DE. Avoided fighting chaos and instead went to the world edge mountains with my main force and slaughtered night goblins. Meanwhile my smaller army at Sarls Camp attacked the HE where I fought a larger force and managed to score an Heroic Victory (despite losing half my army)... then disaster struck. As soon as I hit the "execute" button my game crashed - unspecified error! I re-fought the battle, again scoring an Heroic Victory (this time losing only 10! units cause the AI had problems with reinforcements)...chose to ransom prisoners instead...CTD! Tried it AGAIN (heroic victory! - 18 losses)...this time it crashed without getting to the prisoners screen. So then I read this thread and tried your registry method and tadah! all fixed (at least in automatic battle...heroic victory! lol). Will test again later but I think its okay now. So THANK YOU for saving my current campaign! and uh sorry about the long narrative, thought i'd share

hi. this problem was. i didnt remember where but you need search file name: symbols8.tga and make copy this file with name : symbols7.tga because cow team forget added this file

Good to hear that. Autoresolve fixes the battle crashes, but as the best part of the game is to play battles, I'm working on fixing that. Unfortunately I have very little time lately, so I couldn't do any tests last week, but hopefully I can this week and will see if my theory fixes the bug.

Symbol 8.tga has nothing to do with multiple generals CTD. I managed to fix symbol 8. tga, but it still crashes after multiple generals battles. I can't find what the problem is there, as the logs (yes, i have three logs. One for the scripts, one for the ai actions and one for the system) say nothing valuable there. It means there is something that causes a crash without any info, which makes the search very-very hard.

BTW making a copy of symbol7 is not enough, you have to modify some other files, too.
