    Default Corruption and Other???

When I view my finances, it says that I lose around 4000 gold each turn due to
    "Corruption and Other"...

What does this mean? How can I stop this?

I should be making 5000 every turn, but because of corruption and other, i am only making 1000.

Corruption means that your loyal subjects are pocketing the difference. Other means rebels or the enemy are on your land or ports.

Increasing your culture decreases corruption. Also use your generals as governors, if they are good at it then the corruption will drop and trade/farming income may also increase. Population usually increases faster too due to a bonus, so it is good to keep certain generals in certain cities at certain times to maximize your population growth and income. It really makes a big difference in the end.

I find that most generals end up as corrupted villains, being more of a liability on your region :O

Yea that does tend to happen, that is one of the reasons why you just keep them in certain cities at certain times. Like when you are only 20 turns away from upgrading a town, move a general with good traits in and it could be upgradable in 10 (depending on other factors too). Once it can be upgraded move him somewhere else. I usually keep my generals on the move so the only traits they pick up are from battles, which are usually good traits. But if you leave a general in one place too long he might pick up bad traits. Generals cost too much upkeep anyway, and some of these regions only bring in like 250 gold a turn, so you only need to worry about a few cities.

Do Generals really have an upkeep?

    I've always wondered about that.

I see their Bodyguards have an upkeep, but does that really count seeing as they're generals and such?

Yes, it counts, that's the main reason why I am very carefully with adopting (the other is that I like realistic family trees).

Also be careful with agents, diplomats, spies and especially assasins drain much more money than you would think.

    True

I always only adopt whenever I need soldiers. When in peace I usually don't

As for assassins: I don't even use them. They have such a low chance of success and I hardly see any use other than assassinating bothersome diplomats who keeps nagging me every single turn.

It depends. Usually when I see a skilled bureaucrat I adopt. It is wedding I find dangerous, because you don't decide when children come to age ans begin to cost the pay of their bodyguards.

In most faction the general upkeep cost is 250 per turn, but the cheaper is orcs of the misty mountains, with 240, and the more expansive is Rhûn, with 280.

has been mentioned already that corruption also is a result of a long distance to your capital?
So generally when you change you capital to a settlement in the center of all your owned lands
    corruption will be lower.
