Default How do you deal with the Royal Navy in the beginning of the game?

Every game in the beginning if I don't start out as a British friendly nation, my chief port gets bloackaded. They also have like a stack of 6 fifth rates that's pretty much impossible to fight early on unless you wanna have no money for nothing else but a navy.

Make peace, or at least try to. If that doesn't work you have no option but to build a bigger navy than GB. However, you could also go the whole hog and invade GB itself, that might work.

If you can't beat their navy, I would try to land an army on the British Isles and mess up their business something fierce. Their ships will do them little good as their cities burn...

^ that does work, destroying their economy can make them go into bankruptcy, meaning they lose wealth, and go into negative on their earnings each turn. Also means they can not afford new ships if you manage to sink some. Also focus on Frigates, if used right you can play hit and run, take a few of them out, or if too hard of a fight run away with their superior speed and leave the battle entirely.

Yeps. It's stupid how to take England, all you have to do is occupy London. Each country really should have at least five region capitals.

I agree with Lumina and Hurricane Brad. Invade the isles, drop units in their naval ports (blockade trade, stop any naval construction), blow up and buildings you can get your hands on and then engage their navy when it has no hope of being refitted or reinforced.

yep having played as france a lot trying to beat their navy is a no go. they will have fourth rate stacks when you start beeing able to build 5th rate. as u cant keep your ports free trading income from over sea hubs are not making much profit either.
the best option is building a land army, get it over, if necessary in ireland and take them out or harm them until they want peace.

the only naval option is a game of hide and seek. build single trading ships with low upkeep and send them to far away spots raiding british trade routes and flee if they are comming for you. this keeps a part of their navy at least busy and you might be able to take out the one or 2 stacks ahrassing your home harbours.
only option for frnace. as holland is stronger ont he seas you might have other options but as holland you dont need war with gb. spain i never tried. maybe i should.

well at least england is fairly isolated. holland is a real naval power and yet if you have to fight holland all you have to do is walk over to amsterdam - issue solved

In the 18th century? No factory on earth could have built the mo then, let alone rent it out.
Unless you invent a very large time machine, in which case I rest my case

(I'll need in-game pictures and prove though!)
