Auto-Merge command doesn't work

Anyone else found that, after a battle, and you've taken some losses, pressing the auto-merge command on your army doesn't do anything? I want to re-organise the troops before re-recruiting but the command doesn't work. I've tried re-assigning the keys but that doesn't solve the issue.

...You can press CTRL + A (select all army) then CTRL + M (automerge) but it is still very temperamental...sometimes requiring a few times to fully merge...
...easier to drag and drop the same type of unit cards on top of each other until maximum replenishment...
