    Icon1 Shalictar's Art Contributions

    Greetings friends,

I have always loved the idea of a ancient greek mod, and on seeing this mod's thread I felt I had to contribute something to this great project.

My first piece i did in photoshop, it's kind of sloppy since I dont have a tablet so please be merciful if you are going to critique it. It's subject is King Leonidas standing above recently slain immortals at Thermopylae, all painted to imitate the beautiful units made by Jarlaxe.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

This is my first art contribution's to the mod, I and hoping to make more using units from the mod. Hopefully if I practice enough with these I will be able to make some art to be used for events in the mod. If you are wanting a larger version; I'm gonna fix some things and prepare a larger version and attach it in an edit for people who would like to make signatures or anything with it. I would post it here but it's 2064x2064 so it's kinda big. Plus id like to fix some things before you guys get a closer look at it.

Finally, I want to thank all the mod's team members for all their hard work, I also want to thank Jarlaxe again for helping me with some details on the units.

    Best Regards,
    - Shalictar

Very good work! The sky, the mountains, the sea, the theme. Excellent.
The only criticism I have is the shield: it looks to "tidy" and smooth, it looks a bit out of character.

i think the shields needs a few sprays of blood on it

Nah, its enough. I know I am nitpicking but I think it is the bright white on the shield that sent my sensors off.

So you think the shield should have more worn out colours and be slightly more beat up?

slightly more dented but not suller becuause they used to repaint them a week before they went to battle or ar so that they could be clearly recognised on the battlefield

It is just an impression I have that the shield looks to perfect for your style. But I am not an artist and I should probably just stick to my shoes

    Again impressive artwork!

    Thanks,

I understand what you mean, I actually took a lot of time to measure the shield out which isnt what I normally do.
You have good eye for seeing changes in pattern; a very useful skill!

Also, any ideas for a second picture?
Please post the main concept and units involved in it.

    Perhaps the battle of sphacteria

The spartan elite humiliated by light troops(and hoplites).
Spartans tired, frustrated, wounded by spears, dust, tightly packed.
Surrounded by light troops throwing spears, rocks, mocking them

    Or perhaps this

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
After the death of Pheidon, the relative fortunes of Argos and Sparta began to gradually shift back toward Sparta. In 546 BC (544 BC?), the two armies faced off to fight a decisive battle for control of the Thyreatus plain. Evenly matched, the generals agreed to select three hundred champions from among their number to settle the issue. In the battle that ensued, the Spartan champions bested the Argives, but the Argive ranks would not concede the result and a general battle ensued. Here the Spartans proved their martial ascendancy, defeating the Argives who were forced to withdraw and concede control of the plain. In their shame, the Argive priests decreed that no Argive should wear his hair long until Thyreae was recovered. According to Herodotus, the Spartans henceforth mocked the Argives by wearing their hair long.

Man, both of those seem like very good suggestions.
Perhaps a poll can be made when all the suggestions come in.

This is an example of other great RTW-art.
Anyway another suggestion: When you read about the battles of the peloponessian war it is often said that they after the battle erected a "victory-sign". I have no idea how they looked(perhaps someone can enlighten me). Perhaps a greek iwojima

Another: The scene where the 10000 finally sees the sea(approaching home) after their military campaign.

A question: Why they where called ''the 10.000''? They start theyr march with about 13.000 greeks and they finished theyr with about 6000/7000 men.
Sorry for my bad english, i'm italian

Simple it is because 10,000 were hoplites and the other 3000 were not= and Xenophon was only refering to the hoplites since he saw the other units as inferiour and not real soldiers
