Pretty smart considering when it was taken , thanks i found it quite intresting.![]()
I knew of this picture. It brings the Napoleonic times much closer than a painting does it?
Everything that's on a painting seems so far away... but a picture... wow. I mean a picture is taken from the Duke himself. Of course a painting too, but paintings vary... a picture is the real deal.
Thank you for this. + rep
That is interesting, shame they aren't many from other Napoleonic figures.
How old was he here? 70 or so?
Muh signature is so out of date all muh pictures died.
Looking at the actual light reflected off of the man himself. Very, very cool. Sometimes I wish photography had been invented earlier, if only just to get a glimpse at life then. But every time I see a photo like this, or of the old Grand Armee veterans, it seems like it is good enough. This is amazing.
That gave me chills...dunno why. Amazing pic.
Here are a bunch of other pictures of French vets later on in life as well:

I feel the same man. Truly amazing. To me images are about 50% of my passsion for history. the invention of photography is like a whole new age in history, cus for the first time we see life as it truly was, without possible bias - untill newer photo techniques came about![]()

75 in that photo btw, dated 1844. Wellingtonbridge (a village close to where I used to live) in Co.Wexford in Ireland is named after him.

I see Soult (d. 1851) and Marmont (d.1852) lived the longest of the Marshals. Perhaps there are photos of them somewhere although I couldn't find any.
