1. Stainless Steel :6.1 or 6.2 = alot of the sub-mods use 6.1 as a base. However 6.2 is the current version, lots of eye candy and twists...

Neptune7, buy Kingdoms, download SS and patch it to 6.2 and start playing. Then start a campaign with unmodded medieval. I can't even remember playing it anymore but it will be like watching someone pour rapid-setting cement into your freshly build olympic grade swimming pool. Seriously, stop hunting for info and go shopping. Your wasting good time you could already be spending enjoying the gameOriginally Posted by Double A

SS is vanilla plus, its the same general concept as vanilla mtw2, but with new... virtually everything. Its helpful to think of SS as Vanilla, but redone.
Just try it, within seconds, you'll see what i mean i think.

I played Vanilla for about 7 months, then TA for 2 or so, then I tried Retrofit but with the EDU of an early version of RC for a month, then got SS in late January and never looked back. After a few months of SS, I laugh when I remember what Vanilla was like. It was so basic! So simple! So unrealistic! Such stupid AI! Such a small map! So few settlements! So few factions! Such utter bullcrap! (militias killing knights, archers mowing down heavily armored troops, armies composed entirely of knights, etc.) SS is the game M2 should have been. With RR/RC, of course. I was afraid of it in the beginning (the R part, not the C, I wanted that one), but once I tried it I absolutely loved it.
TA was also cool, but I eventually got fed up with those stinking trolls. WHY WON'T YOU JUST #$!#%!#% DIE! I will go back to it eventually, but with RR/RC this time. Then again, now that I have figured out a fantastic way of removing the troll problem, it wouldn't even be necessary. Then again, it should make the game even more fun.
Broken Crescent I will download tomorrow, since I've heard nothing but good things about it, and leave it sitting around until I get bored of SS, which might take a hwile. A what? A hwile. Why are you saying it like that? I'm just saying we'll be here a hwile, Brian.

It is a lot better. I downloaded SS and went for VH/VH at start. My tiny little empire was struck down into the ground every single time.
