Missing Files

I posted this thread in the Bugs and Technical Help forum, but nobody ever answers in that thread anymore.

Every time I initiate a battle and then click on "Start Deployment" my game crashes, and I get : "Medieval II has encountered an unspecified error and will now exit." I checked my system log file and these are the last five lines:

17:15:17.757 [system.io] [warning] open: data/textures/deployment_area_border.tga.dds is missing
17:15:17.757 [system.io] [warning] open: data/textures/#splash_ring.tga.dds is missing
17:15:17.758 [system.io] [warning] open: data/textures/#water_drop.tga.dds is missing
17:15:17.758 [system.io] [warning] open: data/textures/#weather.tga.dds is missing
17:15:25.112 [system.rpt] [error] Medieval 2: Total War encountered an unspecified error and will now exit.

I did unpack the files, but only after I ran the Third Age patches. I have deleted the two geography files, and the map.rwm file. I have disabled my UAC, and I have just uninstalled and reinstalled my game today. I am running the steam version of the game.

What two geography files?

In any case if you have files missing a reinstall should fix it. You can even try to install 1.0 to a different location and try to find the missing files and copy them to your original install. If you have a rar-ed version of 1.0 you can even open the archive, find the files and selectively unpack them.

By the two geography files I meant descr_geography_new.txt and descr_geography_new.db.

I have just reinstalled the game today, and it takes forever on steam (15 hours). I will try to install 1.0 to a different location.

I realized that my log file contains a lot of missing .dds files. I also found out that the files are misplaced in my medieval II total war data folder. Where can I find a rar-ed version of the patches.
