Icon5 QUESTION: no retreat from trade nodes?

So normally when you have a fleet on the campaign map with full movement allowance, if they are attacked on the AI's turn after you hit END TURN, you have the option to retreat that fleet when it is presented with a first attack.

Apparently, this is not the case when you are on a trade node. I have seen it consistently now. If your fleet is attacked and you select the 'withdraw' (white flag) option, your fleet sinks rather than retreating.

Is this a bug, or is it an intended feature? It strikes me as a bug, as the retreat button is available and not greyed out.

Your guess is as good as anybodies. The entire mechanics behind retreating in Emp are an utter mystery to me.

EDIT: Though in this case it might be an intended feature. You can usually retreat from trade nodes, unless the attacking fleet has 'blocked you in' in some unspecified fashion.

Dominion of Dust. A city of sand. Built your world of nothing. So how long did it stand?
A 100 years? Now wasn't it grand? Built your world of nothing. How long did it stand?
What did you think would happen? When did you think it would all fall down?
Domain of dust in a land of sand. Did yourself right, so let's feel grand.
Domain of dust in a land of sand. Now there's nowhere left to stand.

I am ALWAYS able to retreat from a trade node never had this problem ... now they have followed me and still sunk my trade fleets, since you cannot retreat again!

    Same here.

Additionally, sometimes your fleet will retreat far away and out of range, and other times they just move a little bit. In the Ivory Coast I usually just move a couple of inches on the campaign map, but in Madagascar I can retreat far away most times and be safe until I can leave the zone on my turn.

I've had it both ways. It typically depends on how the enemy attacks and whether there's enough room you can get away from under his "intercept radius". So if the enemy expends all his movement points, you'll be able to get away easier than if he has half his movement pts left, has a radius of intercept, and that radius encompasses your fleet.
