I doubt it ... but it would oh so nice!
Seeing how getting patch 1.6 was like pulling teeth from CA (they had a one coder work on it free of charge or something), I'd imagine that we're probably not going to see another.
The extra development time will allow us to finalize and polish Empire, making it the most accomplished and epic of the Total War series." said Kieran Brigden, Studio Communications Manager at The Creative Assembly. "There is a great deal of anticipation around Empire: Total War and we want to ensure that it is the benchmark for strategy games upon its release.![]()
Does the community need a call to arms again? Wheres Huberto to start of a thread. What do we need from 1.7?
AI armies retreating on Campaign Map - like NTW. (so it is possible for CA to do)
Forts being able to be repaired?
Maybe if we payed for future patches, ala DLC ,CA would me more helpful - but it does set a terrible precedent.
You're obviously confusing CA with a company which gives a. They're working on the next game now, no one to spare for patches. It'll be the same story next time, too, broken release, partially fixed through a series of patches before they walk away and start on the next thing. If you're waiting for the 'ultimate CA game' - the one that lives up to it's potential and has no glaring broken features, bugs, imbalances,
AI or just plain bad/lazy design, give up, it'll never be made. Total War games will always be rushed out the door before they can be properly refined, play tested and balanced. They will always be fun, never as fun as they could be and always frustrating. The AI will always exist just to annoy you, there will always be some stupid ahistorical overpowered rocket [unit] or fishermens wives or imperial stormtroopers or whatever that they insist on putting in for no adequately explained reason, sieges will always be
, the map and faction selection will almost, but not quite, make historical sense and it will always be more fun to play it than not to play it but it will never, ever be anything like what it should be if CA had shown the fraction of the care and attention to game design that they show to graphics.
So either just accept it and play them anyway or walk away in disgust at CAs open contempt for their customers and find something else. No other responses make sense.
Dominion of Dust. A city of sand. Built your world of nothing. So how long did it stand?
A 100 years? Now wasn't it grand? Built your world of nothing. How long did it stand?
What did you think would happen? When did you think it would all fall down?
Domain of dust in a land of sand. Did yourself right, so let's feel grand.
Domain of dust in a land of sand. Now there's nowhere left to stand.
Any good alternative games out there?
I havent found one yet - but I must admit the release of buggy PC games lately not just from CA has moved me on to the PS3 platform and loving it - The only game keeping me on PC at moment is DMUC 6.0 to be released soon and also MTW2 EB2mod but that wont be released for a while.
I think games have got so over complicated in development that the liitle things that make games great is missing - I still remember playing the Close Combat or SM CIV and CA TW Medieval games when they were released and must say loved them - no, they werent great eye candy but they were great to play - or it might me getting older and becoming an old fart and saying I remember the days
The thing that gets me about ETW is that it had so much potential but it was half arsed done - the only things that have saved this game is the wonderful work done by the modders. Three Cheers for the modders!!!
ETW was basically fine after a couple patches.
NTW was/is good. You guys should join like a 4H club or the peace corps, all this energy you waste on (in my opinion) misplaced and exaggerated indignation could be put to better use.
ETW sucked at first, then got better, some people wanted hangings and free prizes though and weren't satisfied.
"...I'll look for something else. We're surrounded by water. Why are we eating knob?"
ETW could still be improved - its just one of those games unfortunately - and I cant see how energy is wasted - These are valid opinions from people about the game - Its just the way it is - not everyone has the same thoughts as yourself - Im glad your happy with the game

Funny how you waste as much energy trying to debunk us. Maybe you should join flower power too! You also don`t seem to know what you think, one minute saying ETW is wonderful, then bad, then wonderful. Make up your mind. And don`t attack others because your view don`t match ours.
For you others, I very much doubt we`ll get a patch. DMUC 6.0 is coming soon, it`s the next best thing to what ETW could have been.
Heehee, a little bitter are we, Tim? I don't blame you, mind - Empire can only be appreciated for what it is, not what it is not. I have a couple hundred hours in it, even though it's far from the game I would design. I suspect that wouldn't be the case if it wasn't for the incredibly generous modding community.
The short answer is no - the chances of another official patch are extremely remote.
Other games? Plenty. But in my opinion, nothing with the same sense of scope AND accessibility. Perhaps I'm just too tired to learn another complex system - Civ 4, Paradox's repertoire, etc. You need to give us a little more if you want a real recommendation - what do you want to play? If you're looking for 'Empire +1' I think you'll be disappointed. My recommendation would be fire up some Homeworld 2, or King's Bounty, or Sword of the Stars, or something a bit more mainstream and have fun. And wait for Rome 2 (or Shogun! *crosses fingers*), but realize it won't be the Holy Grail of strategy games either.

I remember him because of his avatar, he used to be one of the calmer thinkers and posters, if I recall correctly.
"...I'll look for something else. We're surrounded by water. Why are we eating knob?"
Posting in a thread isn't tracking someone down (who?).
They did improve the game, you want handouts in the form of free continued development and retrofitting of new content into an old title.
"...I'll look for something else. We're surrounded by water. Why are we eating knob?"
I remember you too from the day you were much easier to get along with - It was ok for you to write negative comments when you werent happy with the game - but now that you have decided the game is 100% fixed and everything that was originally promised by CA was achieved you beleive that anybody else with an opinion different to yours is way out of line - I dont want to argue with you over whos opinion is right or wrong. I am leaving it at that. Good day.
I would put money on it being Rome 2.

Well, it should be a brand new engine, right? That's how the cycle works? I absolutely hated how in Medieval 2 your units would get so spread out in melee. And how peasants could stand up to knights - the Real Combat mod was awesome. And the trait system made me angry as well - chance-based additions are fine, but not if I have to helplessly watch my favorite general turn into a drunken idiot.
