Default Unable to recruit older units????

Hi I've been on this forum a while just have never had the need to post about anything. Until now. First I just want to say this is my favorite Medieval 2 mod out there. Just one thing I don't like. When I am advancing my settlements and I build say a new barracks the units I was able to recruit before I am no longer able to recruit. Or retrain the old units that have depleted numbers after fighting in a battle. I like to keep certain units for a long time retraining them after battles (More experience this way). But I would also like to recruit some of the older units also just to keep the unit types diverse. If someone cold help me out with this it would be great.

Well I just finished a campaign with England. I want to start a new one but I want to figure out how to get my older units back or keep them as it were. Havent decided who I will be playing with next maybe Norway or Kingdom Of Jerusalem.

I just took a look at milans recruitment tree the last barracks you build in a citadel lets you recruit two handed swordsmen thats all. That barracks cancels out dismounted broken lances and dismounted feudal knights. That doesnt make much sense to me. Your entire infantry line is supposed to be made of two handed swordsman????

I'm sure idk why it is the way it is. But maybe this is intended to happen to keep everyone from maxing out all their castles and cities? I wouldn't know I dont seem to make it to very advanced units, I tend to lose interest in my campaigns. From some guides I've read, the people who play vh/vh dont build everything possible. Maybe you need to keep your po-dunk castles small and only upgrade the one castle destined to be advanced. Some mods only allow a few castles to become citadels. But im sure SF will be on to answer this more accurately and in more detail.
Oh, for Heaven's sake, now you're being deliberately stupid.

This system was made by the modders to simulate the technological advances that occured in those eras. Don't ask me why they did it, I don't like it very much either, but you can always go to the descr.buildings and add units to recruitment queues.

It was done to help the AI. What was discovered is that even during the age of gunpowder and full plate mail the AI factions were recruiting units like town militia, viking raiders, sergeant spearmen or even peasants. Because of this Dave made it so that as the game progressed the AI could only recruit elite units, making the game much more challenging and realistic.

Um, is it possible to mod this so the player gets access to the earlier units while the AI does not? I, for example, prefer to garrison my backyard cities with militias rather than costly elites

Just use the create_unit "cheat". Its a lot easier than modding it if you are unfortunate enough to have Vista or Windows7 and have to screw with turning off and on UAC to mod the files and start new games.

Well its a funny coincidence this thread has been brought back to life, because I am currently working on a hotseat patch that resets the high/late era recruitment system LINK. Basically it didn't work for hotseat because they are too short. So the high era units will stay in and will not be cut.

Although its a patch meant for hotseat it will be very playable in single player still. The only difference is that some factions will now be easier to play in single player. But maybe some people might like this as well.
