Just started reading this book. It is amazing, and very well written, hard to put down.

Its a novel of a soldier who joins the US military in about 1916, serves in the Pancho Villa expedition than WWI. He then goes on to continue to serve in WWII and the beginning of Vietnam though I won't spoil much of it for you. Only on page about 110 of nearly 1300, though I suggest it for anyone.

Wasnt sure if it was a novel or not by your description but i checked it out and it looks pretty good... Im going to mark it down for the next book to buy, already got 3 books on my bookshelf waiting to be read.

Vietnam seems like such a boring era though... and how does a soldier make it to vietnam from ww1. He have to be old as right? In his 60s or 70s at least.

Well the first US soldiers arrived in Vietnam in the 1950s. He was 18 in 1916, he would be 68 by 1966 which is old, but apparently he is high ranking by then. The book was published in 1968 so it would be the early early stages of the war.

I'm on the WWI part and its amazing. I have never read about WWI combat from the rifleman's perspective so its really unique for me in that regard.

1300 pages? Holy Jeebus. Sounds excellent though, will have to check it out some time.

The first US soldiers arrived in 1950, military advisors to the French and later South Vietnamese forces.
