What would be the best army to use on a normal campaign with the XGM mod? I'm fairly new to this game, and I'm basically asking whats the best army for a noobish to intermediate person to use??

rome is always a good one to try out first as they are easy to win with

"Me? Ruin? I'm not the ruiner, I'm the ruinee! Or is it ruinness? Ruinette?"
"She's ahead of the litter all right. The pick of the litter. The cat's pajamas. Oh wait. Why would Applejack take some poor kitty's pj's? That's not very sporting of her."
"More balloons! No, that's too many balloons. More candy! No, less candy. Ooh! I know! Streamers!"
"Oh my gosh. Hold on to your hooves – I am just about to be brilliant!"

It is the extended Greek Mod so the Greeks are a good option. Still most factions start off with a crisis, for Greece they start with Macedon sitting on them. A better option might be to try one of the provincial campaigns. Specifically Pergamon or maybe Syracuse.

I'd advise against a provincial campaign due to you starting with a deficit, but the victory conditions are certainly easier at least.
Since Gauls have slingers in their tech tree (by slingers, I mean Roman killers) they're not a bad faction to start with. They're more than a match for Carthage even with landbridges on and taking out Germany early means you can hold the border with Scythia and Thrace until the cows come home.

Iberia - they have no crisis at the start - only real opposition is the Carthage colonies in the south.

They have a good roster - and can become a power house very quickly.

Fix the problem, not the blame!

Obligatory agreement from the lover of barbarian factions. Just look out for garrison scripts.

Come to think of it, how would I go about adding extra garrison scripts? I'd quite like to add extra ones for the indie Greeks.

Id advise playing as the Ptolemaics (Egyptians), from vanilla on, they start at a good place and rich and there only problem is the Seleucids and the Seleucids have there own problems. very easy for a beginner.

I found my Pergamene campaign to be easy. Greeks field the best army in XGM (better than Rome imo) and you can quickly consolidate control over Asia Minor. This would be especially easy if you have land bridges off. Once you control Asia Minor you can branch out in a number of directions and you have a ton of money coming in.

Yeah, it is easily in the top three easiest campaigns. Break your alliance with TSE, take their three nearby settlements within a year and already, you find yourself in a strong position.
