Default Waaaah! How do I format my harddrive?

I havent formatted a harddrive since I used Windows 2000, many years ago. I have never formatted a vista harddrive before. Gone are obviously the days where you could format c: in DOS

Vista says I got to create a partition, so I go to the disk manager and chose reduce volum on C: in order to create a new one. How much space should I chose? I chose 100gb and nothing really happens. The Vista loading wheel just turns for a long time, but the result are nill.

Well its sounds like your trying to add a partition NOT format your HDD.
If you want to keep your vista Installation and just make a data partition this should be possible using vista itself, just Google some guides.

Otherwise try partition magic, they offer a free trial I think, its much easier than windows.

If you want to format your drive to install a new Vista just put in your vista CD and choose custom installation, you should be able to format the drive and crate partitions from there.

No sir thats a negative. Reinstalling windows will not format the harddrive. Windows say that in order to format, I must create a new partition to run it from, because Vista has no dos, so you cant format the harddrive while running a OS on it.

Of course, formatting a HDD will erase all data… don’t start windows but instead boot the CD in the BIOS then your windows is not active, you can then format away!

Reinstalling windows will not format the harddrive

That’s called a fresh install my friend!
