    Default Really need help!!!

I just bought Rome Total War Gold Edition and when I try to install it nothing happens. It won't auto-play... when I go to do it manually by going to computer -> RTW it says application not found. It won't even let me open the disk to install it that way.

I'm not sure if this makes a difference but I figured I would mention it. For some reason, they sent me I believe the UK version and I live in the US. As I said I don't know if that makes a difference.

    System:
    OS: Vista 32bit
    Graphics: Evga 9800 GT
    RAM: 4 GB
    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6400 @ 2.13GHz (2 CPUs), ~2.1GHz

    Please help... Thanks

UPDATE: I tried using a different PC and auto-play opened right up, didn't try to install it as it's not the computer I use for gaming. But if auto-play opened then it must not be the disk but something on my computer. Any help is appreciated.

Is the one you are trying to run the disc on a blu-ray?

can you copy the discs to your decktop and run setup.exe from there?

    1. No my cd-drive is not blu-ray.

    2. I thought of that after I posted this, I copied them to the desktop on another computer and transferred them with a flash drive, as I couldn't do it on mine. I am in the process of installing it now. If it can recognize the cd being in the drive it should work.

Thanks, I'll update this letting you know if that worked.

UPDATE: Well it installed, but it can't recognize the cd being in the drive, so it wont play.

    Is it a DVD-R, or a CD/DVD?

Medieval2 cd won't play in many new dvd-roms. The first time I have heard of it in Rome.

    Its DVD-Rom which I have...

UPDATE: Well I was thinking it was because of regions codes, but it most not be because it works fine on my other PC. Just tried it... I have another CD-Drive laying around somewhere I may try to add it to the PC that's not working, and see if that works.

It must be a issue with my CD-Drive.

Your looks like some in Medieval2 and they do have the same basic game engine.

Your new dvd-rw is a sata drive. The game is written for the old ide-cd drives. From what little I read, even with the firmware update, it is not that far backward compatible.

That also probably explains why you could install it on the other computer. This one is too new for the game.

My other computer is newer than this one and far better, but it's my dads so I don't play on it a lot.

I think I'm going to try to add another CD drive to my computer, I have an older one laying around here somewhere... also whats weird is MTW2 works fine on my computer.

Um, I'm not sure and I can't check right now. I believe he has a XPS 430 where I have an XPS 410 if that helps any.

I just checked on the US 430, and he would have three different choices. It would be only a guess.

Okay it has two, and I believe it works in both:

    1. HL-DT-ST BDDVDRW GBC-H20L (This is the one I normally use I believe)

    2. Optiarc DVD +-RW AD-7200S

Both of your dad's look backward compatible enough.

The first one has been discontinued by LG.

The Sony specs are already 3 years old of which may explain why it may work.

I have two dvd-rw's in mine, both are IDE and the newest one is three years old. Rome will play in both.

The drive in yours is not as compatible. SATA has nothing to do with it. It's the drie itself. My info just got updated.

Okay then thanks, looks like my only option is to try another CD drive...
