Since I just recently went to a play, MacBeth in the Abbey, and really enjoyed it, I was wondering if people here still go to the theatre. I get out to a play around twice a year, though more since I've been in college and going to student productions. I always think of going more, especially after a visit, but there always seems to be a reason against it. Either the tickets are too expensive or there doesn't seem to be anything on.

What are your experiences with the theatre? Do you go, do you not? If not, why? What would make you go?

I would go if they recorded the play, then played it on a big ass screen and sold popcorn candy and soda

I go quite a bit. You get something out of it that you just don't get in film. Last few plays I went to see were

Exit the King with Geoffry Rush
Checklist for an armed robber great play about the Beslan theatre seige
    The Chairs
Next is going to be waiting for godot with Sir Ian Mckillian
It is great because you get to see things that otherwise you would never get to see the problem with me is that few of my friends are theatre people so sometimes I have to go by myself which isn't as fun.

Mostly I go to small local theaters, that's what happens when you have a lot of friends who are actors. Went to see a Tennessee Williams' play, 'Orpheus Descending', with Denise Crosby (Lt. Yar from Star Trek TNG) and a friend of mine. It was OK, but that's what you get with small theaters. There's another theater called 'Zombie Joes Underground' which does a whole bunch of avantgard stuff that is always interesting. Its a good night out, and with local theater doesn't often cost much except for the occasional grueling performance.

I personally enjoy the tech side of theater, its live and sometimes things just go wrong. Lights going out, off music cues, props breaking, always fun to see how the actors handle those situations.

Saw Les Miserables and The Phantom of the Opera when they came through our town, was really good. My dad and I many times go to various musicals at local theatres, maybe once a year depending on what is good and is playing. We're not fans of plays at all, so we stick to musicals lol. I have gone to a few Shakespeare plays for school up in Chicago, they are interesting at some parts but I find them quite boring and the language to be impeding on the story rather than the highlight of Shakespeare as most people see it. Was funny one time when a student was shining one of the actors with a lazer pointer, the actor played it into his routine and called the student on stage and then proceeded to embarass the hell out of him, was really cool.

My dad is all giddy now because the college I am going to next year apparently has a good theatre department (they pump out a lot of theatre teachers lol and a few famous actors, anyways my dad used to date girls in theatre occasionally to get free tickets lol).

School I went to in Boston had a really good theater department, I worked in the set shop and did much of the lighting for it while studying there. Jay Leno, Dennis Leary, and Jason Lee are just some of the actors that went through there and Kristen Linklater, who a method of acting exercises are named after, taught there while I was a student. Actors are an odd bunch though, so I rarely hung around them except while working on shows.

I haven't been a large show in a while, need to work on that this year.

Yeah, I'm going to see Macbeth in the Abbey tonight. What'd you think Junius?

I think anything with Rory Nolan has to be superb, I'm friends with his son so to speak.

I only watched one show and that was November last year, around the world in 80 days. They took quite some creative freedom with the story.
Peter Heerschop was brilliant as Philleas Fogg.

That was a great play, most plays around here are butchered up versions of originally english or american productions without any creativity about it. They should really start playing those plays in english as they should be.
